Eating chicken breast vigorously will bulk up your muscles?... "That's a misconception"

Eating chicken breast vigorously will bulk up your muscles?... "That's a misconception"

The most important nutrient for people managing their weight or building strength is protein. This is why they always include protein-rich foods like chicken breast in their diet plans. Protein provides long-lasting satiety and contributes to muscle recovery and growth.

However, eating protein-rich foods every day does not necessarily lead to weight loss. Based on data from the American health and medical magazine 'Prevention,' we explored the misconceptions and truths related to protein intake.

Does eating protein increase muscle mass? Without the essential amino acids supplied by protein, the process of recovering from muscle damage and developing cannot proceed properly. However, simply eating protein is not enough to maintain muscle density and strength. Exercise must be combined with a protein-rich diet for muscle growth to occur.

As people age, muscle loss increases, leading to mobility issues and a higher likelihood of accidents such as falls and injuries. Fundamentally, maintaining a balanced body through exercise, improving muscle strength, and ensuring adequate protein intake are essential.

Should you eat protein immediately after exercise?

One of the biggest misconceptions about exercise and protein is the idea that in order to maximize the effects of exercise, you must consume protein immediately after working out through supplements or other means. Of course, for people like bodybuilders who require an extremely high amount of muscle mass, it is necessary to replenish protein every four hours.

However, most people can enjoy sufficient benefits from protein obtained through a regular diet. According to a study published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, foods containing protein consumed immediately after exercise do not specifically contribute to muscle growth and strength enhancement. It is explained that eating a balanced amount of protein-rich foods through three meals is sufficient.

Do you feel tired when your protein intake is insufficient?

It is true that insufficient protein intake can cause fatigue symptoms. However, skipping protein for just one day is not a concern. Fatigue occurs when there is a severe protein deficiency. If someone is a vegetarian and their limbs are excessively thin, a lack of protein intake could be a cause of fatigue. However, most people do not feel tired due to insufficient protein intake.

Is the intake effect the same for any protein?

Even in small amounts, most foods contain protein. However, not all proteins in foods contain the essential amino acids necessary to support muscle and cell health.

The biggest difference between plant-based protein and animal-based protein lies in this part. Animal proteins such as meat, eggs, fish, and dairy products are sources of essential amino acids, but plant-based proteins are not. In other words, people who do not eat meat need to be more careful in planning their diet. Consuming a variety of legumes and whole grains is necessary to supplement essential amino acids.
