Mushrooms are fungi that grow in damp places. They contain anticancer components and are also used as medicine.

It contains deadly poisons and ranges from dangerous to harmless without poison.

Edible mushrooms are considered healthy foods thanks to their various nutrients.

The American health and medical media outlet 'WebMD' introduced reasons why you should eat more mushrooms.

Vitamin D acquisition=

It is a nutrient that is difficult to obtain through food alone. Mushrooms are a rare ingredient that supplies vitamin D. They have the characteristic of producing vitamin D when exposed to ultraviolet rays. Exposing shiitake mushrooms to sunlight allows them to produce vitamin D. Slicing them thinly to increase the exposed surface area results in greater production. Two to three bunches of well-sunned shiitake mushrooms can provide the recommended daily intake.

Help with weight management

Mushrooms have very low calories. The calorie content of 100g of white mushrooms is only 22 kcal. It is only one-sixth the weight of rice. However, they are high in fiber, making you feel full easily. According to research, when eating ground beef and mushrooms respectively, mushrooms provided a greater sense of fullness, and the likelihood of eating other foods after the meal was reduced.

Selenium intake=

It is abundant in animal organs, egg whites, and nuts. It protects cells from reactive oxygen species that destroy cell membranes through antioxidant action. It is also recognized as a nutrient that prevents cancer, and it is rich in mushrooms. In the case of shiitake mushrooms, there are 18.4 micrograms (μg) per 100 grams. This is eight times more than carrots and twelve times more than onions.

Unique flavor=

There are mushrooms like shiitake and portabella that have a texture similar to meat. When making meat dishes such as hamburger patties, mixing an appropriate amount of mushrooms can reduce calories while maintaining flavor. Since all mushrooms have a savory umami taste, they can make salads and stir-fry dishes more delicious.

Good for the environment

Mushrooms do not require sunny, fertile land for cultivation, nor do they use as much water as other crops. They also hardly require pesticides. The farming method itself is environmentally friendly. Moreover, replacing some meat consumption with mushrooms contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, thereby helping to lower the so-called carbon footprint.
