"Bad breath" = Like most bad breath, morning breath is caused by bacteria. Usually, saliva washes away the remnants left in the mouth that harbor bacteria, but during sleep, saliva production decreases. When the mouth is dry, bacteria can thrive at any time.

 

"Throbbing headache..." Dehydration can affect the body's serotonin levels, leading to headaches. The small blood vessels in the brain respond quickly to the body's hydration status. This is the mechanism related to hangover headaches. Drinking a glass or two of water or eating fruits with high water content can help when experiencing a headache.

 

"Constipation has occurred" = According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases in the United States, the body needs fluids to help move what has been ingested through the colon. When not drinking enough water, the body compensates by extracting more moisture from the stool, which can gradually make bowel movements more difficult.

 

"I want to eat something sweet" = Dehydration can feel like hunger. Especially when exercising, you may crave sweets. When exercising in a dehydrated state, stored carbohydrates called glycogen are used more quickly, causing the storage space to decrease rapidly.

 

"Dry and rough skin" = If you do not drink enough water, your skin may feel tight or look dull. Facial wrinkles may deepen, and dark circles may become more pronounced. There is a simple test to check for skin dehydration. You can tell by pinching the back of your hand and seeing if the skin quickly returns to normal.

 

"Feeling too sensitive" = When you're in a bad mood, drinking a glass of water can change your mood. Neurological effects of dehydration can cause irritability.

 

According to a study, people who habitually had low fluid intake experienced improved mood when they increased their fluid intake. The effect was particularly significant upon waking up. People with high fluid intake reported that a decrease in their fluid consumption negatively affected their mood.

 

"Oh no, a muscle cramp" = Experts say, "When the body is not sufficiently hydrated, blood circulation slows down, which can cause muscle cramps," and "The body pulls water from muscles or less vital areas to protect important organs." Changes in sodium and potassium due to sweat loss can also cause cramps.

"Blood pressure has dropped too low" = Among the many symptoms indicating dehydration, hypotension can be particularly dangerous. Symptoms of dehydration-related hypotension may include nausea, dizziness, and blurred vision.

 

This means that blood does not reach vital organs, including the brain. Some blood pressure medications act as diuretics, so people taking them are more prone to dehydration.
