No need for even 30 minutes, exercise this much every day... "Brain vitality death rate drops sharply"

Moderate exercise can increase brain volume

The research team examined brain images obtained through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and physical activity data from 2,550 Germans aged 30 to 94. To collect data on physical activity, participants wore accelerometers on their thighs for seven days. MRI scans revealed details about brain volume and cortical thickness.

The results showed that the more physical activity there was, the greater the effect on brain regions. The research team stated, "In particular, we observed this effect in the hippocampus, which is considered a central area for memory regulation," and "The larger the brain volume, the better it can be protected from neurodegeneration."

The research team found that the brain volume increases the most when comparing sedentary participants with moderately active participants. This was particularly prominent among seniors aged 70 and older.

This can serve as a positive stimulus for people who are reluctant to exercise. The findings suggest that even small behavioral changes, such as walking for 15 minutes a day or using stairs instead of elevators, have meaningful positive effects on the brain and could potentially offset age-related loss of brain matter and the development of neurodegenerative diseases.

Most experts recommend dedicating 30 minutes a day and 150 minutes a week to exercise for a healthy lifestyle. It is not easy for busy modern people to exercise every day like this. However, there is also research indicating that even just 15 minutes of exercise a day can reduce the mortality rate by 14% and help people live three years longer.

Lower mortality rates and extend lifespan by 3 years with just 15 minutes of exercise a day

The research team at Taiwan's National Institute of Health studied over 416,175 people, tracking them for more than 8 years, categorizing the level of physical activity in daily life as: no exercise at all, low intensity, moderate intensity, high intensity, and very high intensity.

The group that engaged in moderate exercise, including about 15 minutes of physical activity per day (90 minutes per week), showed a 14% reduction in mortality rate, a 10% decrease in cancer-related deaths, and a 20% decrease in the incidence of cardiovascular diseases compared to the group that did not exercise at all.

Additionally, it was discovered that the lifespan is extended by three years.

Experts have evaluated that "spending just 15 minutes a day on exercise in a busy life is a very simple and easy way to virtually reduce the risk of death that individuals may face."
