"What should I do if I get dementia someday"... Seven habits to start right now?

"What should I do if I get dementia someday"... Seven habits to start right now?It is the aging era. In our country, the proportion of elderly people aged 65 and over was only 3.3% in 1960, but it is expected to reach 15% in 2020 and 40% by 2050.

As society ages, the fear of dementia is gradually increasing. Since no definitive cure has been found, prevention is becoming even more important. Based on sources such as the British daily The Guardian, I have summarized lifestyle habits to avoid dementia.

☆"Learn for a lifetime"

Studying can reduce the risk of dementia. I'm not saying you should go to school. It means using your brain by learning things you didn't know before. Take up a new hobby. Learn a new skill. If circumstances don't allow, playing games like crossword puzzles is also good. Even just that can have a protective effect on your nerves.

☆"Don't become obese"

Be cautious of diabetes and obesity. Obesity in middle age doubles the risk of developing dementia in old age. Maintain your weight within an appropriate range. You should also put effort into managing blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

☆ "Get along with people"

As you get older, you need to have friends. Those who maintain broad social relationships even in old age tend to have relatively better cognitive abilities and are less at risk of decline. Join clubs or groups. Volunteering is also good.

"Exercise regularly"

The quality of life in old age depends on maintaining physical ability. Start exercising. While some intensity is better, even light activities like walking can be helpful. However, it is advisable to avoid exercises that could cause head injuries.

Follow the Mediterranean diet

It is still scientifically uncertain which nutrients or vitamins influence dementia. However, several studies suggest that the Mediterranean diet is beneficial. Eat less meat and include plenty of fruits, vegetables, olive oil, whole grains, fish, and nuts. This can help prevent high blood pressure and consequently reduce the risk of dementia.

☆"Sleep well"

Sleep disorders lead to cognitive decline with aging. Insufficient sleep or poor sleep quality results in increased production of beta-amyloid, a biomarker of Alzheimer's disease. It is essential to get enough, restful sleep. If you have any type of sleep disorder, take action to address the issue.

☆ "Always stay away from cigarettes"

Smoking leaves traces on the brain over a long period. Scientists report that smoking impairs cognitive abilities. There is research indicating that middle-aged individuals who smoke more than two packs a day have twice the risk of developing dementia when they become elderly.

.......

Don't be complacent, thinking dementia is still far away.

It's also important to prepare in advance to prevent issues.

How about it?

Dementia can also appear in the younger generation.

I do.
