Effective treatment methods for cervical disc herniation
Five years ago, I had severe shoulder pain and went to a local orthopedic clinic, and surprisingly, they said I had a cervical disc herniation.
Initially, I continued physical therapy while taking painkillers, but I only felt better at that time and didn't experience any improvement in the pain.
It turns out it wasn't a specialized orthopedic clinic, but a clinic where physical therapy was available.
Two years ago, I started receiving proper treatment to stop taking painkillers.
1. Pain Medicine Treatment
1) Injection procedure: A procedure that directly injects medication into a cervical disc using a syringe.
At first, I hesitated, but I ended up getting the procedure...
It was quite tense and uncomfortable when the syringe was inserted, but I received three treatments.
2) Shockwave therapy: A treatment that stimulates nerves at the pain site with a machine for 10 minutes, but it was too painful the first time, so I stopped halfway through.
I received it again.. I heard I received it five times..
3) Manual therapy: While working, I spent a long time doing computer or paperwork tasks in incorrect postures, which caused the core erector muscles to weaken.
Actually, they said that the pain in the shoulder was caused by a hard, hardened callus forming on the back.
I received 20 sessions, but even during the first three sessions, just loosening the calluses was so painful...
Chuna therapy
1) Alignment of the protruding bone part of the cervical disc herniation: received twice a week for two months.
- After receiving treatment, I could feel my neck becoming more flexible.
2) They also took herbal medicine to dissolve blood stasis at the same time... (a step to stop taking painkillers)
3. Exercise therapy
As you age, the muscles on your back weaken, and if you hunch forward, it can cause shoulder or lower back pain and may lead to a herniated disc in the neck.
It seems like you're doing well.
I started a proper erector spinae exercise by doing 20 sessions of PT... using equipment and postures suitable for my condition at a low intensity.
Started gradually leveling up with power training.
Currently, I have been consistently doing upper body workouts for about 3 days and lower body workouts for about 2 days.
While receiving multiple treatments over two years
1. Stopping the pain medication
2. I couldn't sleep deeply due to pain, but now I can have a restful sleep.
