Is the recurrence rate of cerebral infarction high? In what cases does it recur?

I had a stroke in 2017 and was hospitalized for about two years, including at a rehabilitation hospital. Since the recurrence rate is said to be high, I have been doing walking exercises for about five years. I also quit all the alcohol and smoking I used to enjoy. I wonder if this is enough to prevent a recurrence. I am very aware of the severity of a stroke, and I am doing my best to reduce the chances of it happening again, but I am not sure if this is sufficient.
