People on a diet mainly eat salads. This is because they think salads are low in calories since they are based on raw vegetables. In fact, salads are rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber, and they provide a high sense of fullness, making them effective for dieting. However, salad dressings often have calorie content comparable to a bowl of rice, so caution is needed.

Special attention should be paid to mayonnaise in salad dressings. Thousand Island dressing and Caesar dressing are typical mayonnaise-based salad dressings. The calorie content per 100g is 370kcal and 400kcal, respectively. Although it depends on the amount of vegetables, if we assume about 50g of dressing per salad plate, it already amounts to more calories than a bowl of rice, which is about 300kcal.

Mayonnaise also contains a high amount of sodium. In the case of Thousand Island dressing, the sodium content is 863 mg per 100 g, and if you eat it along with chicken or seasoned chicken breast, your calorie and sodium intake will increase even more. Oil-based French dressing is also similar. French dressing is made by adding vinegar, onion, lemon juice, and other ingredients to olive oil. Sometimes paprika or ketchup is added for color. Because it contains a lot of olive oil, the calorie content per 100 g reaches 457 kcal.

To see the effects of dieting, it is good to consume vinegar-based dressings. The calorie content of balsamic vinegar, which is made from fermented green grape juice, is relatively low at 88.2 kcal per 100g. Additionally, the citric acid, which gives it a tangy flavor, helps break down fats, aiding in weight loss. Making low-calorie diet dressings at home, such as tofu and nut dressings or sweet pumpkin yogurt dressings, is also an effective method.

Meanwhile, it is good to eat eggs along with salads. It helps improve the absorption rate of vitamin E. Vitamin E, which has antioxidant effects, reduces damage to the skin and hair and aids blood circulation. According to a study by the Purdue University research team in the United States, people who consumed salads with eggs had a vitamin E absorption rate in blood tests that was about 4 to 7 times higher than those who did not.
