As I frequently come into contact with media outlets, my previously clear vision has become cloudy, and gradually my eyes have become blurry, my vision has become hazy, or I feel that my focus is quickly losing clarity, so I started paying attention to my eye health.
These days, I spend a lot of time accessing various challenges, community activities, cafe activities, app tech, and more through my smartphone. Before I knew it, I was constantly holding my smartphone or PC computer in my hand... I have come to realize that I am unknowingly engaging in behaviors that tire my eyes.
Starting eye health management as my eyes became blurry, reducing eye fatigue definitely made my vision clearer and less uncomfortable when using my eyes!
(Helpful Tip) How to Take Care of Your Eye Health
1️⃣ Do not rub your eyes.
When your vision becomes blurry or foggy, you should avoid rubbing your eyes. Rubbing your eyes can transmit pressure to the cornea, scratching the surface and causing injury, and bacteria or foreign substances on your hands can enter your eyes, which is not good. When you want to rub your eyes, it is better to apply artificial tears and gently close your eyes, allowing the tears to wash away the irritants.
2️⃣ Blocks ultraviolet rays.
Especially during this time when summer begins, prolonged exposure to strong ultraviolet rays can cause significant eye fatigue. It is recommended to use sunglasses or hats to protect your eyes from UV rays! Simply using sunglasses or hats to block the rays can help reduce eye fatigue!
3️⃣ Block blue light.
It blocks blue light, which is emitted a lot from electronic devices like smartphones and PCs.
For mobile phones, there is a feature in the settings that blocks blue light, making it easy to turn off. For PCs, there are also monitor protection films available^^ Blue light refers to visible light emitted from electronic devices, and if exposed to it frequently, it can harm eye health, so many people use blue light blocking glasses to reduce exposure.
In my case, I started using protective glasses that block blue light to protect my eye health from dryness and fatigue. By blocking blue light with protective glasses, I felt a reduction in dryness and fatigue in my eyes.
4️⃣ Maintain distance when using smart devices
When engaging in long-term comment communication and writing, you are exposed to smartphone and computer screens. It is said that lowering electronic devices below eye level is good for eye health, so I keep my monitor and phone positioned lower. Remember that placing the monitor or phone above eye level can easily cause your eyes to become dry.
Are you still lying down and holding your phone up?
It is recommended to keep a distance of at least 40cm between your eyes and smart devices. Try extending your arm and holding the phone below eye level while using it!
5️⃣ Look far away and do eye exercises
Whenever I have free time, I like to look into the distance. For example, I find it helpful to look at distant mountains or objects far away, so I do eye exercises whenever I have a chance! Instead of just staring into the distance, I rest my eyes by closing them, then open them again, rotate my eyes, or rub my palms to generate warmth and gently warm my eyes with the heat from my palms, which is good for maintaining eye health and relieving tired, blurry eyes!
Even just 10 seconds a day made a difference in whether or not eye exercises were done.
Apparently, eye exercises not only reduce eye fatigue but also improve near and far focusing ability!
Sometimes, when communication is difficult, it's important to take a short break, look into the distance, and rest.
6️⃣ Take lutein.
I make sure to take lutein for my eye health. As I get older, I can really tell the difference between taking it and not taking it.
It's easy to take once a day, and these days my swallowing has improved, so I make sure to take it regularly, which seems to be very helpful!
