Mother is undergoing treatment for osteoporosis.
My mother is 74 years old. About 5 to 6 years ago, she fell and fractured her lumbar vertebra, which required a procedure, and it was then that we first learned she had osteoporosis. The hospital told her she needed to keep taking medication, but she found it bothersome and stopped taking it on her own. After undergoing colon cancer surgery in 2000, her bone density was quite poor, and she was advised to take medication, so she continued taking osteoporosis medication. The doctor mentioned that if her levels didn't improve quickly, she might be prescribed injections. Last year, her teeth deteriorated, and she needed implants, so she stopped osteoporosis medication for nearly a year, over six months. After stopping, she had her teeth extracted three months later, and about six months afterward, she completed implant and other dental treatments. Since October, she resumed osteoporosis medication, but during a recent bone density test, her levels were not very good, and the doctor asked if she wanted to switch to injections. She agreed. Taking medication once a week is difficult for her, so an injection every six months seems more convenient. Even after four years of taking osteoporosis medication, her levels haven't improved, which worries me. I hope the injection works well and her levels improve. They say that once you're over 50, you should get a bone density test. It's better to detect and treat issues early with medication, which can reduce suffering and is much more effective. Everyone, please get a health checkup and consider a bone density test too^^~~
