A review of visiting the hospital due to concerns about whether it might be colon cancer
I once experienced quite severe abdominal pain and thought I had an urgent need to use the bathroom, so I went to the restroom.
I didn't have a satisfying bowel movement as I expected, and when I wiped with toilet paper, bright red blood came out.
I visited the hospital worried, but there was nothing particularly wrong.
I have experienced various illnesses throughout my life, but I have never had a truly serious disease, so I don't actually worry that much. Of course, I still have a weak body, so I often suffer from minor ailments, and I spend quite a bit on hospital bills, but I haven't had a serious illness that others would consider critical. During that time, the word "colon cancer" kept lingering in my mind. One day, on a weekend, I suddenly felt a very urgent need to go to the bathroom because of severe stomach pain. Since I usually have a regular routine of going in the morning, it was quite unusual for me to have such an episode during the day without overeating. I didn't feel any relief from the pain, and when I wiped, I saw bright red blood that soaked the tissue paper. It wasn't just red blood; it was very bright red. I don't have any particular anal issues, so I looked it up online and found that "colon cancer" is a diagnosis that can suddenly appear. Hearing "colon cancer" was truly shocking. With my limited knowledge, I thought that since the colon has no nerve cells and pain is rare, if it was cancer, it would already be quite advanced by the time symptoms appear. I couldn't get the thought of colon cancer out of my mind, and several days passed with nothing else on my mind. Finally, I went to the hospital, made an appointment, and visited. I underwent endoscopy, X-ray, and ultrasound examinations. Fortunately—or perhaps unfortunately—they told me I did not have colon cancer. I was so relieved I could have cried. However, I still don't understand what caused the bright red blood that was so much it soaked the tissue paper when I wiped, even though my stomach still hurt. The hospital said they didn't see anything abnormal. If there had been a wound, it would have been painful, but there was nothing like that. I'm a bit worried, but since there's nothing wrong, I am now going about my daily life. Sometimes, about once a year, a little blood appears, but I try not to worry too much. I'm really glad it's not colon cancer, but I still wonder—what exactly was that?
