Is a vasectomy necessary if family planning is complete? It's always been a topic I struggled with, but I researched various articles online and decided to get a vasectomy a year ago. After the procedure, I had no particular thoughts about it, and laziness took over, so I couldn't record my experience. Today, I am writing an honest review.
I had a vasectomy, and it is said to be a common surgical method nowadays. It involves making a 3 to 5mm incision, pulling out the vas deferens from inside, tying and cutting it, and then sealing the incision with laser, making it a perfect method for contraception. However, even with this method, there is about a 0.3% chance of pregnancy, and during consultations, doctors also mention that they receive reports of pregnancies approximately once every 4 to 5 years.
Preparation for vasectomy involves shaving to clearly expose the testicles, bandaging the surrounding area, covering with a surgical drape, and then proceeding. Anesthesia was administered at three incision sites: one on each side of the vas deferens. Many people say that the injection of anesthesia hurts, but in my case, it didn't hurt much at all. The vasectomy was performed one side at a time, and since I was grimacing, the doctor asked if it hurt, but after chatting with the doctor for a bit, the procedure was over in about 10 minutes. I was very afraid of the pain associated with vasectomy, but I was told that pain varies greatly from person to person. When the vas deferens was being tied, I felt some pain, and men might recognize the dull, heavy sensation in the lower abdomen that sometimes feels like a cramp. I was very nervous as I entered the operating room, but not long after, the procedure was finished without any particular sensation. After leaving the operating room and hearing the explanation, I went home without feeling anything, to the point that I wondered if I had really had the surgery. Internet reviews saying that office workers come briefly during lunch to get a vasectomy and then go back make sense to me now, and I thought, "Maybe that's really possible." For about two days after the vasectomy, I experienced bruising and some discomfort, but from a week later, I had no trouble with daily life.
