Are kids catching whales these days?

Raising a son has brought me many worries.

If you want to do what you heard in the past, do it when you're young enough to forget the pain. I think that's how it was.

I'm currently unsure whether to let my child grow or not.

They say that not doing it is more common. Do you all usually not do it these days? If it naturally happens, is it really okay not to do it?
