(Helpful Tip) Alternative ways to use ointment

I think most people probably don't know about this. Of course, I didn't know either, at least until I visited the urology clinic...

 

 

You have a lot of ointments at home, right?

I think we also have about seven ointments at home.

Houses with a lot of ointments probably also have some steroid ointments, right? Especially in spring, eye diseases like conjunctivitis tend to worsen.

But this ointment was only applied when there was an issue with the eyes, right? I did the same.

However, they say it's okay to apply this ointment to the urogenital area. Who said that? The urology doctor. Why? Because it's a sterile, safe ointment and gentle enough to use.

 

 

It was when the child was much younger than now.

Since the kindergarten child kept saying that their penis was hurting, I checked and found some red wounds and slight swelling at the tip. The child kept saying it hurt every time they urinated. However, it was nighttime, and the hospital was closed, and with the weekend, I was in a difficult situation.

It was the first time something like this happened while raising a child, so I didn't know what to do.

I just endured the weekend and went to the hospital, and the doctor, upon hearing our situation, asked if we didn't have eye ointment at home. He said it was okay to apply eye ointment in such cases. At that time, after the whole family experienced conjunctivitis in spring, we had two tubes of eye ointment, but still ㅠㅠ

An eye ointment is an ointment applied to sensitive eyes, so among ointments, eye ointment is the gentlest, and that's why they said it's okay to apply it there.

It was a fact I really didn't know, so I was completely surprised.

So after that, I really used ointment only in urgent situations or tried other methods when I was in pain or needed it. ^^

This is Maxitrol, an eye ointment made by Alcon, which I was prescribed.

Eye ointment is not only used for the eyes; it is more accurate to say it is a sterile, safe eye ointment that can be used on the eyes. Besides the eyes and the urinary tract I mentioned earlier, it can also be used inside the nose. When the nose is sore or cracked, the ENT department sometimes prescribes it as well. I also just learned about these facts for the first time. Haha.

I will also look into other ointments.

 

 

It's a different ointment ingredient. I think the most commonly used ointment would be Terramycin ointment.

It is an antibiotic ointment containing mostly similar ingredients.

Ofloxacin is an antibiotic that exhibits antibacterial activity by inhibiting bacterial DNA synthesis. Therefore, it can be applied to a wide range of bacteria, but because it can cause serious adverse reactions, it should be used cautiously only when there are no other treatment options in cases of acute bacterial sinusitis, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections.

So, it can be used not only for the eyes but also for the nose or urinary tract, but only when there is no other choice in urgent situations.

 

Like all medications, there are side effects that should not be overdone. We should be careful about this^^
