Worried about suddenly increased freckles on the face

My husband and I both have fairly fair skin, so we tan quickly even with just a little sun exposure. We've both been worried about the increasing number of freckles over time. Since some of the freckles are quite large and resemble moles, it’s been bothering us a lot. My husband has also started developing age spots similar to those seen in older people on his face. Our freckles are quite severe, and we're considering going to a dermatologist... but it might take a lot of time, and they probably won't disappear all at once, right?
