Can I remove a scar with laser treatment?

I fell and tore a scar in the past, but I didn't think it was a big deal so I left it alone, but a scar formed. Can something like a laser be used to remove this? I'm wondering if laser treatment will be done all at once or multiple times. I'm also curious because it's on my hand so I'm a bit concerned. Or is there another way besides laser treatment? If anyone has had this experience, please share any information.
