If you want to look young, you should eat frequently... What foods reduce skin damage?

Many people spend money and time on anti-aging and skin care. Experts say, "Among various methods, diet is important for reducing skin aging."

Consistently consuming foods rich in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties can help protect the skin and delay damage in the long term. According to the American health information outlet 'Verywell Health,' collagen loss that causes skin to lose elasticity can occur due to aging, sun exposure, smoking, and pollution.

Experts say, "Various factors such as genetics, stress, sleep, and hydration can affect the skin, but the food we eat can also make a difference," and "While there is no single food that can change the aging process, overall healthy dietary patterns can help alter the way we age."

Based on materials from Very Well Health and others, we looked into foods recommended by nutritionists and dermatologists to help protect the skin.

Tomatoes=Tomatoes are rich in skin-beneficial vitamin C and antioxidants. Eating tomatoes can help add a youthful glow to the skin.

According to research, consuming tomato paste (a food made by grinding or blending tomatoes into a paste-like form) helps make the skin more resistant to damage caused by sunlight.

Avocado = Various avocado-related masks and skincare products are widely sold in the market, promoting the skin-moisturizing properties of this green fruit. According to research, women who ate avocados daily for 8 weeks showed improvements in skin elasticity and firmness.

The research team stated, "Foods rich in monounsaturated fats and antioxidant carotenoids can make the skin appear younger." Carotenoids are natural pigments found in many fruits, vegetables, and mushrooms. They also function as antioxidants that can minimize damage caused by reactive oxygen species and oxidative stress.

Berries are known to help with heart health and reduce the risk of certain cancers. Experts say, "Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries contain antioxidants," and "preliminary studies show that they can prevent skin damage and also protect the skin from UV damage and pollutants."

Dark chocolate = Dark chocolate contains antioxidants that can protect against ultraviolet rays and promote blood flow in the skin. To maximize antioxidant benefits, look for dark chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 70% or higher.

Milk chocolate does not offer the same benefits, and its high sugar content can harm the skin. Experts say, "Foods high in sugar can accelerate signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles on the skin."

Green tea=Green tea is rich in polyphenols that support gut health and can prevent cell damage. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), the most abundant polyphenol compound in green tea, has been shown to reduce skin inflammation and fight bacteria that cause acne.

Almonds are one of the anti-aging foods and are an excellent source of healthy fats and fiber. A study published in 2021 found that daily consumption of almonds can reduce facial wrinkles and skin pigmentation.

Foods rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties are generally the best for protecting the skin from oxidative damage. The most important thing is to eat more natural foods and focus on maintaining a balanced eating pattern.

Fish such as salmon, sardines, and seafood, which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, can reduce the risk of heart disease. They are also excellent sources of protein that can help alleviate signs of aging.

Consuming enough lean protein becomes increasingly important as you age. In particular, if you do not consume enough protein in your diet, the amount of muscle decreases during the aging process.
