The rash is caused by inflammation in the dermis, rather than the epidermis, due to swelling and lymphocyte infiltration around blood vessels within the dermis. Typically, rashes appear sporadically throughout the body and usually improve gradually over one to two weeks.

The most common form of skin rash is a viral rash. It can be caused by direct viral replication and proliferation within the skin, or it can manifest as a secondary symptom caused by the virus replicating in other organs. It can cause a variety of skin and mucosal symptoms, including spots, papules, pus, and blisters.

 

Pityriasis rosea, also known as a cold of the skin, is a representative acute inflammatory skin disease. . It often occurs during seasonal changes when immunity is low. Pink oval spots first appear in the center of the body and then spread outward in a diagonal downward direction, like a Christmas tree. The spots are usually surrounded by thin, fine white scales.

 

It occasionally spreads to the arms and legs, but rarely to the neck or face. Three out of four patients also experience itching. It most commonly occurs in people aged 15 to 40, and is more common in women.

 

Most rashes disappear on their own after 6 to 8 weeks, so if symptoms are not severely bothersome, no specific treatment is necessary. However, if itching or excessive rash is present, symptoms can be alleviated with antihistamines and topical steroid creams. If the rash persists for several months after 6 to 8 weeks, it is recommended to see a dermatologist for an accurate diagnosis.
