건조한 계절에는 정말 바세린이 최고인것 같아요
For several years, "Vaseline slugging," which involves slathering your face with Vaseline, has been popular on social media like TikTok. As of 2022, "#Slugging" had already surpassed 150 million views on TikTok. Slugging is derived from the word "slug," meaning slug, referring to the sticky feeling of applying Vaseline to your face, similar to a snail's slithering past. As fall approaches, when skin gets drier, the number of people seeking out slugging often increases again. But can a 3,000 won bottle of Vaseline really help your skin?
Vaseline has excellent moisturizing effects. Petroleum jelly, made from refined petroleum residue, coats the skin, preventing moisture loss. Dehydration can lead to wrinkles and accelerated aging, but applying petroleum jelly can help prevent this. It's especially effective for those with severely dry skin or those prone to breakouts, as it maintains healthy skin.
However, some people should avoid Vaseline slugging. Those with oily skin and dehydrated skin may find that Vaseline slugging can actually worsen acne. Unlike other areas of the skin, the face has approximately 10,000 to 30,000 pores, each secreting sebum.
Applying too much Vaseline can clog pores, trapping sebum. Cell debris and keratin, produced by cells, can accumulate in the skin, forming tiny comedones. This triggers inflammation and immune responses, potentially worsening acne. Furthermore, Vaseline only forms a barrier to prevent moisture loss, not deeply hydrating the skin. Those with severe dryness may not see significant results. If you experience an allergic reaction, such as redness or itchiness, after applying Vaseline, stop exfoliating immediately.
Even those who don't typically break out can still develop acne if they apply too much Vaseline. It can also cause milia in thin areas like the eye area, so careful control of the amount applied is crucial.
People with very dry skin should apply a thin layer of Vaseline after applying moisturizer to prevent moisture loss. Applying it the other way around can reduce the moisturizing effect. To keep your skin clean and long-lasting, use a cotton swab rather than your hands when removing Vaseline.
Applying it to areas other than the face is effective in protecting moisture, but it is unlikely to block sebum production.

I heard you use Vaseline even when washing your hair.
They say that your hair becomes moist and better.
