Autumn is a harsh season for the skin. Autumn afternoons are as intense as summer, with intense sunlight.
Chilly winds blow in the mornings and evenings. The air is dry, and if your skin can't adapt to the large daily temperature fluctuations, its sebaceous glands will weaken. This can cause your skin to become rough, and the oil-moisture balance can be disrupted, accelerating aging.
The intense autumn UV rays can cause freckles and dark spots, contributing to skin aging. How can we keep our skin healthy this fall?
 

◇ Apply a occlusive moisturizing cream for firm moisture

 

The most important thing is moisturizing.

 

It is best to find a moisturizer that suits your skin type and apply it generously.

Another option is to apply a "sealing moisturizer" that prevents moisture from evaporating and retains it in the skin. Common examples of sealing ingredients include petroleum jelly, mineral oil, and silicone. If your skin doesn't feel moisturized, a product containing both humectants and sealing ingredients is recommended. Humectants like glycerin prevent damage to the lipid membrane between keratinocytes,

 

It enhances the skin barrier function. Ceramides are also helpful, as they are one of the components that make up the lipids between keratinocytes. However, oily skin already has a lot of oil, so applying oil-based cosmetics can clog pores. An oil-free gel-type moisturizer is ideal.


It's also good to eat foods that moisturize your skin. Tomatoes are a good example.

 

Tomatoes contain vitamin P, which strengthens blood vessel walls and helps evenly distribute nutrients to the skin. They are also rich in vitamin H, which, if deficient, can lead to flaking and dandruff. Lycopene, another key nutrient in tomatoes, protects the skin from UV rays. A study found that a group that consumed lycopene daily for 12 weeks had 30% higher skin defenses than those who did not.

 

It's also important to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. It's also a good idea to eat fruits rich in vitamin C, such as strawberries. Vitamin C prevents skin aging by eliminating free radicals produced by fatigue and stress.

 

◇ Freckle management is also important… Laser treatment is effective for removal.

 

Freckles are also a skin enemy in autumn. As the weather cools in autumn, outdoor activities increase. However, the air is dry and UV rays are intense, which can lead to freckles and blemishes simultaneously. Just like in summer, you should be diligent about applying sunscreen. Freckles can also worsen when hormones are disrupted by stress, so it's important to manage stress through adequate rest and sleep.

 

Meanwhile, freckles and spots that developed last summer are difficult to improve with whitening cosmetics. Laser treatment is helpful for definitive removal. Since freckles are evenly distributed from the deep dermis to the epidermis, laser treatment is performed after assessing the depth and shape of pigmentation. Depending on the type of freckle, various laser toning techniques, such as normal toning, PTP (Pulse to Pulse) toning, gold toning, E-toning, Alex toning, and focus toning, can be combined. To prevent freckles from recurring, treatments such as yellow laser, V-beam, and Silfirm, which constrict dilated blood vessels in the dermis, are also used.
