Professor Gary Small of Hackensack University School of Medicine, who has been researching the brain for over 40 years, said in an interview with the American weekend news magazine 'Parade' that “people have much more control over memory retention and brain health than they think,” and introduced a simple three-step technique for maintaining memory.
He said, “The various methods to compensate for age-related memory decline can be summarized in three words,” and “ View, Take, Connect "That is exactly it," he said.
'Seeing' means to focus your attention. He explained, "The biggest reason people forget is that they get distracted and fail to learn the information from the beginning."
'Taking a picture' means to keep it in your mind like a photograph. He said, “Mentally take a snapshot of what you want to remember later,” adding, “Through this, we can utilize the brain’s natural ability to remember visual information.”
The final step, 'connecting,' involves linking mental snapshots to give them personal meaning. He said, “If you can create something meaningful, it will be memorable.”
The three-step habit for strengthening memory is excellent, easy, and even sounds good in theory. However, applying it to daily life can be difficult. Professor Small presented specific examples focusing on the situations people say are most inconvenient due to memory impairment.
He said, “It is easy to apply this technique to common memory difficulties, such as remembering names or faces,” adding, “If you have trouble remembering the names of people you have met before, using this three-step technique will be helpful.” He said, “If you meet Lisa and she has the Mona Lisa’s smile, keep that image in your mind. Then, the next time you meet her, you will be able to call her by her name.”

If this habit becomes ingrained
It would be better for memory, right?
