Engage in hobbies to escape work... Need guilt-free relaxation
We are living in an age of fatigue. If we do not manage our energy expenditure regularly, fatigue accumulates, and the risk of burnout increases. How can we confront fatigue when we are tired and exhausted?
Anna Katarina Schapner, who works as a burnout coach, advised managing fatigue by practicing gratitude, changing perspectives, engaging in hobbies, and prioritizing rest, according to The Guardian, a British daily newspaper, on the 23rd of last month (local time).

Sharpner said, "One of the most prominent causes of burnout is feeling that what you do is not valued." According to a 2019 study by OC Tanner Institute, an HR management service company based in Utah, USA, not giving or receiving gratitude at work increases the likelihood of burnout by 45% and 48%, respectively. Without positive feedback, we become weaker and less valued.
Changing perspectives is also important. Sharper pointed out that our generation is not the only one fighting fatigue. In the Middle Ages, fatigue was regarded as a sin such as indifference, lethargy, ingratitude, or defined as spiritual discomfort. Sharper explained, "Knowing that these fears have always been with us can bring comfort," and "Concerns about fatigue make us human."
The most powerful detox for fatigue is a hobby. Humans find meaning, joy, and community through hobbies. Burnout researcher Nick Petrey emphasized that various hobbies such as gardening, dancing, and knitting create a 'multifaceted person.' The multifaceted person he refers to is someone who does not put all their eggs in the work basket.
We should always interpret fatigue as a warning signal and prioritize rest. Fatigue is a sign to protect the body and mind from further harm. Sharper advised, "Taking proper rest every day is essential," and "We should allow ourselves guilt-free rest that gives the mind and body a chance to recover on their own."
