How to correct vision for middle-aged presbyopia without cataracts?

Methods for presbyopia correction are mainly divided into presbyopia LASIK, cataract surgery, and presbyopia lens implantation.

Presbyopia laser correction involves using a laser to correct presbyopia, and cataract surgery and presbyopia lens implantation are performed by inserting artificial lenses or intraocular lenses into the eye.

Presbyopia laser surgery is a method that creates asymmetrical eyes by adjusting focus so that the dominant eye sees distant objects clearly and the non-dominant eye sees near objects clearly. This surgery is preferred by young patients in their 40s with mild presbyopia, as it allows for mild presbyopia correction and can help prepare for future presbyopia. However, while the effect on near vision is good immediately after surgery, the distant vision tends to be relatively poorer, and the durability of the effect is limited to about 7 to 10 years.

The most common method used so far to correct presbyopia is the implantation of a multifocal intraocular lens during cataract treatment.

This surgery removes the cloudy lens and corrects focus at all distances, providing high satisfaction as glasses are not needed after the procedure. However, a drawback of this method is that it cannot be applied to presbyopic patients before the onset of cataracts.

There is an 'RT Plus Lens Implant Surgery.' This newly introduced presbyopia correction surgery involves inserting a special lens called 'RT Plus' between the cornea and the iris without removing the lens. RT Plus was developed using the same material and shape as 'RT Flex,' the world's first presbyopia correction lens introduced by Dutch Optics. Therefore, it enhances the presbyopia correction function of RT Flex, which has a long history of proven safety, allowing clear vision of objects at all distances.

The ReLPlus implantation is suitable for people in their 40s and 50s who have presbyopia but no cataracts. Additionally, it can be applied to middle-aged individuals seeking vision correction surgery, those who see well at a distance but want to see up close without glasses, and cases where cataract surgery was performed with monofocal intraocular lenses, allowing for near vision without glasses.

Presbyopia laser surgery and presbyopia lens implantation are recommended for presbyopic patients who do not have cataracts.

If both presbyopia and cataracts are present, choosing multifocal intraocular lens surgery is effective.

However, vision correction surgery should be decided after considering various factors such as eye condition, occupation, and lifestyle, so it is necessary to undergo detailed examinations and professional consultations to choose a hospital. Additionally, since the skill of the medical staff affects the surgical outcome, it is important to carefully check whether the medical team has extensive clinical experience, and whether the system for surgery, consultation, examination, and post-operative care is well established.

이렇게까지 심각하지는 않지만 눈이 점점 안 좋아지는 것을 느낍니다. 한번 나빠지면 회복하기 힘들다는데 잘 관리해야 되겠네요.
