๐ท When you twist your ankle, should you use cold compress or warm compress? Which one is better?
Always rest for 48 hours when you sprain your ankle.
Please remember to use an ice pack.
During the first 48 hours, cold compresses.
Heat therapy is recommended thereafter. The reasons are as follows.

1. Initial (1-2 days) โ Cold compress
- Purpose: Reduce inflammation and swelling, alleviate pain
- Method: Wrap an ice pack or cold compress in a towel and apply for 20 minutes. Repeat every 1 to 2 hours.
- Reason: It constricts blood vessels to reduce bleeding and inflammation.

2. Afterwards (2 days later) โ Warm compress
- Purpose: Promote blood circulation, relax muscles, relieve pain
- Method: Use a warm compress for 20 minutes. Repeat 2 to 3 times a day.
- Reason: To promote blood flow, aid in the recovery of damaged tissues, and relax tense muscles.
๐ซ Precautions
If the pain is severe or swelling persists, it is advisable to see an orthopedic doctor.
- When applying cold compresses initially, do not place ice directly on the skin (risk of frostbite).
- Hot packs should only be applied after the inflammation has subsided. Applying hot packs from the beginning can worsen swelling.
