Broadcaster Choi Hwa-jeong (63) announced that she maintains her bone health by getting sunlight during her walks.

 

On the past three days, a video titled "Tteokbokki Killer Choi Hwa-jeong Reveals Hidden Authentic Restaurant She Has Been Visiting for 47 Years" was uploaded to the YouTube channel "Hello, This is Choi Hwa-jeong." In this video, Choi Hwa-jeong went for a walk dressed in a sweater.

He said, "I really enjoy being in the sunlight," and "For people our age, it's good for bone health to get plenty of sunlight." He then added, "Seoul Forest is so great," and "They say Seongsu-dong was ranked the 4th coolest neighborhood in the world."

I looked into the health benefits of walking that Choi Hwajeong does.


Exposure to sunlight during a walk allows you to absorb vitamin D, which helps maintain bone health.

Vitamin D, along with calcium, is a representative nutrient that strengthens bones. It helps absorb calcium, increases bone density, and reduces the risk of fractures and osteoporosis. A deficiency in vitamin D causes calcium and phosphorus to gradually be lost from the bones, leading to weakened bones, osteomalacia (softening of the bones), and an increased risk of fractures. Insufficient vitamin D also raises the risk of diseases such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, degenerative arthritis, and colon cancer. Additionally, vitamin D is involved in the synthesis of serotonin, a hormone that enhances happiness, thereby helping to reduce feelings of depression.

 

Additionally, taking a walk naturally leads to walking exercise. This also helps with body shape management. When you walk, sugars in the muscles and glucose in the blood are consumed as energy. When all the sugars are used up, the body burns fat for energy, resulting in a reduction of fat.

As a result of a 12-week walking program operated by the Korea National Park Service, the average body mass index decreased by 0.23 kg/m² when walking about 12 km, more than 2-3 times a week on average. Walking facilitates the smooth supply of oxygen to the brain, improves blood flow, and enhances brain function.

 

Keep your upper body posture straight when walking.

Many people walk with their upper bodies unconsciously kept slouched.

Straighten your spine and chest, and look straight ahead or slightly upward, not downward.

You need to tighten your stomach and walk so that your lower back doesn't strain.
