Stretching and taping therapy helped alleviate wrist pain.
You have to take on a lot of heavy work.
It was a job that involved a lot of hand use.
I have experienced wrist pain before.
The diagnosis was carpal tunnel syndrome.
First, let's learn about carpal tunnel syndrome and also how to self-diagnose it.
I'll let you know.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition that compresses the 'carpal tunnel,' the passage through which nerves pass, causing pain and numbness.
The carpal tunnel here refers to the nerve passage surrounded by bones and ligaments beneath the skin on the inside of the wrist.
Through this passage, nine tendons and the median nerve, which is responsible for the main sensation of the fingers, pass through.
If we overuse our hands or experience increased pressure due to multiple stimuli, inflammation occurs in the tendons around the carpal tunnel, causing the carpal tunnel to swell and narrow.
Because of this, the median nerve passing through the narrowed carpal tunnel becomes compressed, leading to carpal tunnel syndrome, which causes abnormal sensations in the palm and fingers.
Self-diagnosis method for carpal tunnel syndrome
Check whether pressing on the area where the median nerve passes increases pain and finger numbness symptoms.
Touch the backs of both hands together with palms facing up. Maintain this position for about 30 to 60 seconds and check for any pain or numbness.
If severe wrist pain suggests carpal tunnel syndrome, it is necessary to undergo tests for an accurate diagnosis.
We also looked into how to perform self-diagnosis.
Actually, the best treatment method for these kinds of diseases is
It is about not engaging in behaviors that cause overload.
Even if I visit the hospital, it's only for that moment.
Since I can't quit my job, I need to find another way.
I found it.
I would like to introduce two methods, stretching and wrist taping, which have been very helpful in relieving pain.
1. Stretching
<STEP 1.>
Stand facing the wall, fully extend your elbows, and turn your fingers downward, then press your palms completely against the wall.
Points to be cautious about
Gently shift your weight onto the palm side and press your palms completely against the wall.
<STEP 2>
Wrap your thumb, which is pressed against the wall with the opposite hand, completely, then gently pull it toward your body and hold the position for 15 seconds.
Perform a total of 3 sessions, 3 sets per day.
Points to be cautious about
Be careful not to bend your elbow!
2. Wrist Taping
Can be attached from the tip of the palm to the elbow
One piece of tape, with a gap of 1 to 2 finger-widths
A single piece of tape long enough to wrap around the wrist
Preparing.
STEP 1. Tape from the end of the palm to the elbow with the wrist in a dorsiflexed position.
STEP 2. Wrap the tape around the wrist area.
<Effects of Taping>
First - assists the circulation of blood, lymph, and tissue fluid.
When our body experiences an abnormality, inflammation occurs as antibodies and antigens fight each other to resolve the abnormal symptoms. By lifting the skin while the tape is attached, it helps to quickly expel dead cells, local tissue fluid, and internal secretions accumulated in the area, thereby alleviating pain.
Second - Correct the function of the muscle and prevent secondary damage.
Our skin and muscles relax when the weather gets hot and contract when it gets cold, and they can be twisted or deformed due to shocks and damage depending on the situation. The restorative properties of the tape stimulate the skin and muscles, helping them return to their original state and alleviating pain. Additionally, if painful muscles are left untreated, surrounding muscles may compensate, leading to secondary damage due to the added strain. Applying the tape helps regulate the tension of the painful muscles and restore body balance, thereby preventing secondary injuries.
Third - Corrects joint dislocation.
Sometimes we experience back pain or knee pain and visit a hospital or clinic to get X-rays or CT scans, but in many cases, doctors tell us that there is no particular illness and advise us to rest. This is often due to muscles around the joint being overly tense, causing the joint to be slightly misaligned. Although this misalignment is not visible on X-ray or CT scans, it can cause significant pain for the patient. In such cases, applying tape can help restore muscle movement to its normal state, which can realign the joint.
Fourth - alleviates muscle fatigue.
By dispersing muscle fatigue caused by continuous exercise and labor through taping, the risk of injury can be reduced. Additionally, applying tape during exercise for chronic pain can greatly aid in muscle strengthening and post-surgical rehabilitation.
<Precautions for Taping>
- If you experience itching (allergy) or discomfort after applying the tape, you should remove it immediately.
- • You can take a light shower after applying, but if you start to sweat, you should remove it.
- When removing, roll it up during a shower to remove it without damaging the skin.
This time at the Olympics, I saw player Shin Yu-bin with a wrist injury, so she was wearing wrist tape while participating in the table tennis match.
Not only for athletes, but also for the general public.
Using tape on the area of pain is a really useful method, so I recommend trying it out.
After quitting the company, the exhausting pain disappeared. Turns out, rest was the best cure.
However, if you cannot stop doing work that causes overload like me
Both stretching and taping are easy for anyone to do.
I would like to recommend it because it is a simple method.
Wrist taping feels uncomfortable as a support brace when working.
It's a method I started using, and since it works well, I sometimes try it on other areas.
I am using it if I have pain.
For those suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome
I hope this was of some help.
