I have scapular pain (pain in the shoulder blade) that causes significant discomfort, pain, and suffering in daily life. Due to the scapular pain, my quality of life has decreased, and I experience a lot of stress. I have tried stretching, exercises, and massage devices that help with the scapula, watched YouTube videos on shoulder blade exercises, and regularly visited Korean medicine clinics, orthopedic surgeons, and pain clinics.

About 8 or 9 years ago, I used my phone extensively for several years, often working in improper and hunched postures while using my phone. When I was working with my phone, I didn't feel any pain in my back, only a stiff feeling after a lot of work. However, starting a few years ago, I began to experience stiffness in the left side of my back, especially the upper part, and sometimes I feel a slight muscle ache when using the computer or phone. The pain or discomfort in daily life is not significant, but I always feel a chronic stiffness in the left back area. Therefore, I went to an orthopedic surgeon and received muscle injections and physical therapy about three times.

Although I didn't recover completely and immediately after treatment, the pain improved over time, so I didn't continue with the treatment.

And around 7-8 months ago, I suddenly experienced stiffness in my fingers, followed by pain and discomfort. My fingers didn't bend well, and in the mornings, they felt stiff and uncomfortable. I went to a traditional Korean medicine clinic and received treatment for about two weeks. It could be due to nerve compression or symptoms stemming from a forward head posture, so I focused the treatment on my fingers.

They also inserted acupuncture needles into the connected acupoints, including the calf and forearm areas.

Then, the finger pain worsened, and my back and shoulder blades also became problematic, so I visited the orthopedic clinic and rehabilitation center.

I had an X-ray taken at the orthopedic department and was diagnosed with a turtle neck, and I am receiving treatment for the symptoms caused by the turtle neck.

Treatment methods included muscle injections, physical therapy, manual therapy, posture stretching, shockwave therapy, and high-frequency therapy, which were administered alternately.

Pain around the shoulder blades is now considered one of the common symptoms these days. It is mainly caused by habits such as sitting for long periods, lack of exercise, poor posture, slouching, shoulder shrugging, and a forward head posture. These causes put strain on the muscles and ligaments around the back. When the muscles around the shoulder blades tense up or are overused, pain can occur, often after exercise or physical labor. Pain in the shoulder blades can also affect the shoulders, arms, and fingers, causing significant discomfort in daily life.

Pain in the wing of the shoulder blade is truly the worst based on my experience. Unbearable pain that I can't express, it's a pain that tortures my body without showing, unless I speak about it.

Pain in the wing of the shoulder blade can cause a dull ache on the back when still, a tingling, electric-like unpleasant sensation, a frustrating inability to touch or press the painful area with the hand, and a stabbing, throbbing pain!!

If you don't sleep well, you get a stiff neck, making it hard to move and feeling very uncomfortable and unpleasant, right?

Back and shoulder blade pain suddenly occurs!! That's right. It's uncomfortable to move your body freely, and when you move a little, a stiff and aching pain comes from your back, and if you move incorrectly, it feels like you might sprain it, so you need to act cautiously. That's why your whole body can also feel uncomfortable.

The ankle or sprained area is wrapped with a bandage or limping, so even others can see that I got hurt and think, "That must be painful," but...

Back pain is felt intensely by the patient, and although it hurts, it doesn't show outwardly, so people who haven't experienced it can't fully empathize even if they say it hurts.

I have had chronic pain in my shoulder blades that persists, varying slightly depending on my condition, and eventually the pain spread down to my fingers, so I have been consistently visiting a Korean medicine clinic and a pain medicine department.

Received pharmacopuncture, cupping therapy, and heat high-frequency treatment at acupoints connected to the neck and hands.

I also applied acupuncture and cupping on my forearm, but since the acupuncture needles were inserted, I couldn't take a photo.

When administering ultrasound joint injections, I can directly see with advanced equipment which nerves pass through when injecting into the neck or arm, so I feel more confident.

I watched the "Yonsei Shin Tong TV" and "PAIN LAB" YouTube channels.

Watch YouTube to learn about scapular pain (back wing bone pain), the pain I feel, and its causes.

Please refer to YouTube, but since the stretching methods may not suit me, those with mild pain can try following along with back exercises. However, for those with severe pain like me, I recommend consulting a specialist at a professional hospital before attempting any exercises rather than blindly following YouTube videos.

Some of the shoulder blade pain (scapular pain) exercises suited me well, but some movements put a strain on my body.

 

 

These are the stretching exercises I was directly recommended by the physical therapist in the pain medicine department.

I will introduce the stretching method that suited me best among various movements.

You can do stretching twice a day, in the morning and evening, and even once a day when you're short on time will be helpful.

Lie flat on the foam roller with your shoulder blades, on your scapula.

Spread your legs to shoulder width and keep your knees straight.

Then, please rub the scapula, the shoulder blade, about 20 times back and forth.

Please do this movement twice a day, in the morning and evening.

Lower your shoulders, extend your hands forward, and then bring your shoulder blades and wings together toward the back.

Please do 2 sets of 15 repetitions^^

 

Recently, I often find myself visiting the orthopedic and pain medicine departments, possibly due to frequent use of smartphones and computers or because of poor posture.

Stretching and exercise that help with pain are also important, and I think it's good to manage my body by doing them consistently.

And even with exercise and nutritional supplements, if my body, joints, stiffness, pain, and discomfort require professional management, I think I need to go to the hospital for pain nutrition IV therapy, chiropractic treatment, and pain injections.

In my case, the scapula pain (back wing bone pain) was not resolved through exercise or supplements, so I sought out a specialized hospital. After continuous treatment and visits, the discomfort and pain from the scapula pain (back wing bone pain) have improved quite a bit.

The doctor also said that I have improved a lot, and I have moved away from the painful period caused by the pain. Now, I no longer go to the hospital and am consistently doing shoulder blade (wing of the back) stretching exercises. Regular stretching really helps alleviate the pain.

    통증에 의외로 운동이 가장 좋은 치료법이 될 수 있는것 같아요.
    특히 등부위는 운동으로 단련해주면
