Sudden calf pain while sleeping
Waking up repeatedly is happening.
It's a localized pain in my calf muscle.
The type of pain is very unique ~
In a way, it's even frightening.
The painful leg is stiff.
I can't move.
The bulging part of the calf
It seems like we're going to fall apart together.
It feels like a squeezing pain somewhere.
At first, I was really flustered~
I thought I shouldn't leave it alone.
To the heel of the painless leg
If you rub the area with pain multiple times
As the pain subsides more frequently and more time passes
It seems to get better~
I have never felt this kind of pain during the day.
Strangely, I experienced such severe calf pain while sleeping.
So, I am walking 10,000 steps.
Maybe it's because my calves are really sore.
Using a yoga ring to loosen up the calf muscles, and
Adding a footrest time as well.
I was paying attention to relaxing my muscles while giving a massage.
However, this kind of calf pain
It may not be an issue exclusive to the calf muscles.
Yesterday, I read a post about varicose veins on Cashdoc and looked into whether my calf pain might be related.
As with all illnesses, early treatment of symptoms allows for less suffering and a quicker recovery of health.
Even in the midst of severe calf pain that occurs while sleeping
I thought there must be some reason.
Diseases that may be suspected of causing severe leg pain
✔ Varicose veins
✔ Spinal stenosis (musculoskeletal disorder, neurological disorder)
What is varicose veins?
In the veins that carry blood used by each cell back to the heart, there are valves that prevent blood from flowing backward. This is a phenomenon where blood reflux occurs due to malfunction of the calf valve function.
If these symptoms are left untreated for a long time, the blood vessels will become bumpy and protrude. If you experience the following symptoms before that happens, it is better to seek early treatment.
[Main symptoms of varicose veins]
Leg pain
✔ Leg cramps and muscle spasms remain
✔ Legs easily swell
There is heat remaining on the sole of the foot
There is still heat in my leg.
The feeling that bugs are crawling remains.
Severe leg fatigue
Avoid weight-bearing exercises such as running and mountain climbing.
It is said that a lifestyle that helps blood circulation is necessary.
In the early stages of varicose veins, non-surgical treatments and compression stockings can lead to improvement, so early intervention is important.
Calf pain caused by spinal stenosis?
When the spinal canal in the lower back narrows and compresses the nerves that go to the lower back and legs, calf pain may occur.
[Main Symptoms of Spinal Stenosis]
✔ Tingling in the legs
There is heat remaining in my leg.
Pain occurs in the legs, lower back, hips, or back when walking
There is no pain when lying down or sitting.
✔ The intense calf pain feels like it's about to burst
✔ Numbness in the legs or feet
Spinal stenosis is related to herniated discs and can also occur due to aging.
It is good to avoid positions that bend the waist forward.
In that case
Is my severe calf pain caused by varicose veins?
Could it be spinal stenosis?
Among the symptoms of varicose veins and spinal stenosis
There are some commonalities, but there are also clearly distinguishable symptoms, so I think you can recognize them to some extent by comparing.
It is said that two diseases can occur together in old age.
My symptoms are similar to spinal stenosis, but they don't match perfectly.
I used to have issues with a herniated disc in my lower back, and I still have related symptoms.
There is almost no pain in the legs or lower back when walking, so it differs slightly from spinal stenosis.
I experience pain in my pelvis, lower back, and legs when I sit in a chair, so I can't sit for long periods.
So when the pain worsens, I often work standing up. Standing for a long time makes my legs uncomfortable again, so I sit back down to work. When the pain in my hip bones becomes severe, I stand up again to work. I keep repeating this cycle.
The time spent sitting and standing seems to be almost the same, but compared to before, the time spent working while standing has definitely increased.
The time spent living while standing is long.
Could it be related to calf pain?
You need to take good care of your calves, which are called the second heart.
It is said that maintaining the same posture for a long time is not good.
Even when sitting, I consciously tap my feet.
Even when standing still, I don't just stand quietly.
It's good to move your legs.
Do some stretching too.
Moving my leg.
Lifestyle habits for healthy calves
✔ Do not cross your legs
✔ I don't stay in one position for a long time
✔ Frequently stretch when standing for long periods
It is recommended to wear compression stockings.
It's also good to support your legs with a pillow while sleeping to elevate your legs above your heart.
However, even if you maintain these healthy habits for your calves, severe calf pain still occurs while sleeping.
What should I do?
Is taking muscle relaxants before sleep helpful?
Has anyone else experienced a problem like mine?
I wonder if there is a way to fall asleep healthily without pain.
