How can I manage early-stage knee arthritis to delay surgery as much as possible?

Thirty years ago, I was diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus tear during military training and underwent surgical treatment. Recently, my knee has been aching and after running, it swells with fluid, making it difficult. How should I manage it?
