[My Own Joint Tip] Using a vertical mouse and keyboard palm rest to protect your wrist joints!
Due to my profession, I mostly sit in an office and work in front of a computer for 8 hours a day.
My wrist started hurting in my mid-30s.
Was it around 7-8 years after I started working?
I'm worried that I might have carpal tunnel syndrome.
Then I realized that a regular mouse is not good for the wrist.
Especially office workers who constantly use their wrists for work need to be very careful with their wrist joints, as once wrist health deteriorates, it is not easily improved.
However, when using a regular mouse with this wrist position, the wrist is slightly bent. The joint is unnaturally misaligned.
Since it's a job that involves working on a computer, spending eight hours a day in a posture that puts strain on the wrists, it's naturally not good for the wrist joints, so I chose the vertical mouse after 고민 (consideration)!
The vertical mouse is designed so that when held, the angle between the floor and the hand is approximately 60 degrees.
Holding the mouse at this angle makes it impossible to move the mouse using only the wrist, so
It helps protect the wrists by naturally encouraging the use of the entire arm to move the mouse.
Of course, you can work without twisting your wrist.
The wrist pain that was bothering me has disappeared!!
Tilting the angle of the Glico keyboard also reduces strain on the wrists while typing!!
Cornell University's 'Ergonomics Web' always recommends keeping the wrists in a neutral position.
The fundamental reason why keyboards cause wrist pain is because they are used with the wrist angle bent side to side and up and down. That's why some keyboards are split in half and designed to be curved and adjustable in angle.
If the height of the keyboard is much higher than the desk, it causes the wrists to bend upward, and maintaining that angle can put strain on the wrist nerves.
If you rest your arm on the desk and type on the keyboard, the keyboard being flat on the floor causes your wrist to bend slightly.
I thought that even a slight increase in the angle would definitely make my wrist feel more comfortable, as it puts less strain on the wrist joint.
They say this was the wrong way to use it!
It is generally said that it is also good not to use the height adjustment stand included with the keyboard.
(I've been using it so far ㅠㅠ).
This height-adjustable stand reduces the gap between the fingertips and the F1~F12 keys, making the user feel 'more comfortable,' but
(That's why I thought it was comfortable)
The wrist angle is tilted upward, which can put long-term strain on wrist health.
Therefore, do not use it as shown below!
A good keyboard posture is said to be as follows.
In the most ideal posture suggested by Konnect University's 'Ergonomics Web',
The wrist cannot be raised upward and naturally tilts downward.
There was a desk in our company's office with a keyboard stand underneath the desk...
I was assigned to the office with the oldest desk while moving the office.
It's become difficult to type on the keyboard in that manner.
And try to avoid using the keyboard height adjustment function as much as possible.
It is recommended to use a substitute palm rest if necessary.
I am also using a palm rest, but in the case of the palm rest, instead of raising the back of the keyboard
It raises the position of the wrist, allowing for more comfortable keyboard use without compressing the wrist nerves.
One important point to note when using a palm rest is that, as the name suggests, it should not be used to support your wrists.
Like this below... You're not supposed to use it..
Using this way, the palm rest directly compresses the tendons or nerves in the wrist, and also restricts wrist movement, causing users to twist their wrists while typing.
This can ultimately have a worse effect than not using a palm rest.
The correct way to use a palm rest is to position it so that it supports your palm, not your wrist.
When used this way, the wrist is suspended in the air, and the palm rest supports the palm, helping to maintain the proper wrist angle while also distributing the weight.
So I also started using the palm rest like this~
This is the correct way to use a palm rest to protect your wrist~
Do you understand?
Since I use this palm rest... my palm rest is a bit convex,
I think I should buy a slightly lower palm rest like the one below, haha.
Those who spend 8 hours a day on the computer even at home
In a way, I spend half of my day on the computer excluding sleep, but I have to protect my wrist joints!!
I protect my wrist joints by using a vertical mouse and a palm rest, so I introduce them as my own joint items~
