Treatment Review) My husband's journey to overcome gout!
My chubby husband in his mid-40s has been complaining for the past two years that his big toe keeps swelling, and he thinks it's due to an ingrown toenail.
I went to the dermatologist, and it wasn't an ingrown toenail at all.
I was told it looked like inflammation at the dermatology clinic, so I was prescribed an anti-inflammatory medication, and it started to get better.
My husband, who has been enduring swollen toes by taking anti-inflammatory medication from the pharmacy each time.
Instead of continuing to live uncomfortably like this, I suggested going to the hospital for a check-up, but they said I was making a fuss over something trivial and scolded me so harshly.ㅜㅜ
At the end of last summer.
Finally, something has happened.
My husband suddenly woke up, took a few steps saying "Ah, Ah~," then said he couldn't walk because it hurt.
My feet were so swollen that it was obvious I couldn't fit into my sneakers, so I told my husband to go to the hospital alone. He couldn't put on his shoes, so he went out wearing slippers.ㅠㅠ
I went to a nearby family medicine clinic for a quick check-up, and they said my uric acid level was high and I have gout.
Gout. It's commonly called the "disease of emperors."
A disease caused by overeating.
Asymptomatic hyperuricemia, a disease name that was very unfamiliar even to listen to.
The doctor prescribed about three weeks' worth of medication and advised avoiding alcohol, meat, and other things. He said to come back for a blood test after three weeks.
My husband thinks it's nothing, but the doctors keep saying not to drink alcohol, and he's about to commit the heinous act of distrusting the doctors' advice.
I argued that there are people who have had their feet amputated due to gout and asked if they can't resist quitting alcohol for just three weeks.ㅜㅜ
Since then, the diet has begun.
After searching the internet, I really thought this was why my husband got gout because I took such good care of him...
It was strange that I didn't develop gout despite eating foods high in purines such as meat, alcohol, processed meat products, oysters, squid, bluefin fish, and Cheongyang beverages...
Because black coffee is said to be good for uric acid excretion, I brewed drip coffee for breakfast and lunch.
Prepare a meal plan using grains, potatoes, sweet potatoes, seaweed, cabbage, broccoli, nuts, etc., and serve three meals a day.
Provide snacks centered around fruits such as tomatoes, bananas, and watermelons.
I walk 10,000 steps every morning with me for weight management.
When I sing that I want to eat meat, I buy soy meat and make alternative dishes (spicy pork stir-fry, bulgogi).
Still, when it comes to meat, I bought chicken, boiled it, or marinated and grilled it to give to them.
Especially, the husband's biggest hardship as a drinker was not drinking alcohol.
I asked to go exercise at night, so I casually persuaded him to take a walk around the neighborhood, and I ended up going out, so of course I couldn't drink alcohol. Haha
After changing my diet like this and exercising regularly for three weeks, my husband's weight has quite decreased (lost 5 kilograms!), and his uric acid levels in the blood test have returned to normal!!
My husband, who had always prided himself on being healthier than anyone else since his youth, changed after falling ill.
From now on, drink in moderation! I promised to eat red meat only twice a month.
I'm so grateful to my husband for cooperating with the diet plan.
Gout tends to recur easily, so I am maintaining a consistent diet.
