[Treatment Review] Lumbar Disc Treatment Review
My father, who went to work, has been experiencing numbness in his legs since two days ago and has been unable to sleep.
I told you to visit the hospital just in case it wasn't a herniated disc issue, but you said your back doesn't hurt?
That night as well, you were in pain and couldn't sleep.
In the end, I took my father to the local general hospital.
This hospital is the one my younger sibling also visited five years ago when they had a herniated disc, so I trust and go to this hospital!
There have been many people since the morning.
First, I had an MRI scan and met with the doctor face-to-face.
They said that the numbness and pain in the thigh are due to a herniated disc in the lower back.
Lumbar disc herniation
The correct term is "intervertebral disc herniation."
It is a disease in which the intervertebral disc, acting as a cushion between the spinal bones, slips out of place and compresses the nerves in the spinal canal, the passage through which the main nerves pass, causing pain.
The disc has a structure with a jelly-like nucleus inside a tough outer shell, and when impacted or due to poor posture, the nucleus can protrude outward, pressing on nearby nerves and causing pain.
When a herniated disc occurs in the lower back, every time you move your back, the pain is transmitted down to your legs as if an electric current is passing through.
It works.
And when sitting, the lower back pain is more severe than when lying down or standing, and changing posture causes a tingling sensation in the lower back.
If symptoms worsen, paralysis of the motor nerves may occur, such as frequently falling while walking or being unable to press the accelerator or brake pedals while driving.
My father also had the classic symptom of a herniated disc, where his leg felt like it was tingling as if electricity was passing through it 😢
The hospital said that outpatient treatment would be difficult, and I need to be hospitalized for a week to receive injection therapy and physical therapy.
Fortunately, the disc did not herniate severely, so he was discharged after a week of treatment.
I have been discharged, but I was told I need to continue outpatient treatment with physical therapy for a week.
From now on, I realize I need to manage it steadily so as not to strain my back. Even a little strain, looking at my younger sibling... she wears a support belt and stays like that for a few days😭
I should also help out well from my side!
Everyone, please be careful of herniated discs.
