Hallux valgus symptoms caused by wearing tight shoes and how to manage them to prevent them from worsening
It was caused by hiking for a long time wearing tight shoes. Hallux valgus symptoms The bone next to the big toe would bulge out, become swollen, inflamed, and cause extreme pain when worn with shoes.
When the swelling was severe due to hallux valgus, it was difficult to walk with shoes on, so I managed it by wearing shoes with a wide toe box, stretching my feet, and using toe correctors.
I usually manage my hallux valgus symptoms by stretching my toes and strengthening my muscles.
When sitting, it is good to stretch often, such as spreading your toes or putting a band around your big toe and pulling it.
[ Hallux valgus symptoms [Deformity of the lateral bone of the big toe]
There are people who suffer from hallux valgus, either congenital or acquired. After experiencing the pain and discomfort for several years, I have many regrets that I wish I had been more careful in advance.
Hallux valgus symptoms include a visible deformity of the toes. The big toe bone bends outward, causing the bone at the joint to bulge outward. This area can rub against shoes, causing inflammation and pain.
Even if you are usually fine, there are many cases where symptoms suddenly start or worsen due to a specific trigger.
This was my experience. During a multi-day, long-distance hike, I wore tight hiking boots for more than eight hours a day on poorly maintained trails. This led to irritation and pain on the side of my right big toe, which led to hallux valgus symptoms.
When I returned home from my hike and examined my feet, I noticed that the joint next to my right big toe was bulging out, unlike before. At first, I thought it was just swelling, but it never went back to normal.
As time passed, the protruding area turned red and I felt extreme pain every time I put on my shoes.
I had chronic hallux valgus symptoms that continued to make the protruding joint area painful, swollen, and red whenever I touched it.
[Symptoms of hallux valgus]
=> The joint next to the big toe bulges out, swells, and becomes red.
=> If the protruding part is not touched, the pain may be mild or not felt, but if it is touched and stimulated, the pain becomes severe.
=>The shape of the foot becomes distorted as the big toe bends more and more toward the second toe.
=> Calluses may form due to the pressure being concentrated on the front of the sole.
[ Treatment to alleviate hallux valgus symptoms ]
Because of these hallux valgus symptoms, walking itself was so difficult that I had to change my shoes.
I only wear low-heeled sneakers or shoes with wide toes, and do not wear high heels or shoes with pointed toes.
To relieve pain, I put silicone separators between my toes before putting on my shoes.
There are many different types of silicone separators.
There are many types, such as those that fit only on the big toe, those that fit all the toes, and those that fit only between the toes. You can wear the one that fits you best.
If you put on a silicone separator like this and wear socks and shoes, the irritation to the protruding part will be reduced, so the pain will be less.
When I was sitting, I stretched my toes and did toe muscle strengthening exercises from time to time to make sure it didn't get any worse.
Using shoe inserts to distribute the pressure on your feet can also help.
When the pain is too severe, taking anti-inflammatory painkillers temporarily can also help.
Once hallux valgus develops, it is difficult to return to its original state naturally, and if you continue to wear shoes that are narrow or have a protruding part that irritates the foot, the toe bones may move outward and the big toe may move inward, which may worsen the pain and worsen the deformity.
I think it would be best to manage it so that hallux valgus does not develop.
If it does occur, it would be good to take good care of it so that it doesn't get worse.
