What is snoring?

Snoring is described as the sound produced when structures forming the pharynx and larynx vibrate. When the parasympathetic nervous system is activated during sleep, the muscles around the pharynx and larynx, which are the airways, become extremely relaxed and sag downward, obstructing airflow and causing these structures to vibrate.

1. Cheese

On December 1st of last year, the Journal of Sleep Medicine published a joint research study by researchers from Chengdu University and Lanzhou University in China, which found that regular consumption of cheese can reduce the risk of sleep apnea by approximately 28%. In particular, the study showed that the more cheese people consume, the lower their risk of sleep apnea becomes.
 
According to research, people who consistently include cheese in their diet experience changes in six biomarkers, including increased testosterone levels, elevated aspartate aminotransferase, urea, cystatin C, sex hormone-binding globulin, and diastolic blood pressure, which has been identified as the reason for these results.
 
The researchers explained, "Cheese is a rich source of essential nutrients and plays an important role in supporting overall health," and "Cheese consumption may have a significant impact on reducing the prevalence of sleep apnea through specific metabolic pathways."

2. Turmeric

Turmeric, the main ingredient in yellow curry, contains a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound called curcumin, which helps eliminate respiratory inflammation and keep the airways clean, thereby aiding in the improvement of snoring.

According to a research team at the University of South Carolina in the United States, turmeric is one of the foods with the most significant anti-inflammatory effects, and the curcumin component has been shown to block the mediators that cause inflammation.

To enhance the absorption rate of curcumin in the body, it is recommended to consume it heated with healthy fats such as coconut oil, olive oil, or avocado, along with piperine, a compound abundant in black pepper. For example, when stir-frying vegetables with plant-based oils, adding turmeric powder and black pepper and cooking them once more can maximize curcumin absorption.

3. Honey tea

Many experts recommend drinking a warm honey tea before bed to alleviate snoring. The sweet honey not only moistens the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract but also has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects that soothe the throat and bronchi. Additionally, the tryptophan component in honey helps promote the production of the sleep hormone melatonin, leading to better sleep.
 
At this time, adding antioxidant-rich foods such as △ginger, △lemon, and △cinnamon powder allows you to enjoy honey tea with a variety of flavors every day and also more effectively eliminate inflammation in the body. When inflammation of the nasal mucosa is removed, nasal breathing becomes smoother, preventing oral breathing, and it is also effective in improving snoring and sleep apnea.
