Sudden hearing loss treatment review.
My mother cannot hear at all in her right ear. Seeing that my aunts have the same issue, I think it might be hereditary. She first had a telephone installed in the 1970s and found out that she couldn't hear in her right ear. She only hears with her left ear, but a few years ago, she experienced sudden hearing loss in her left ear, and for about a day, she couldn't hear anything at all. She took nerve medication over several months at a university hospital, and her hearing returned, but she said she doesn't hear as well as before. Also, since our home environment is quiet, she isn't very uncomfortable, but living in the countryside, outside sounds tend to spread, which seems to cause her more discomfort. She mentioned hearing aids several times, but I thought she should get a consultation after her hospital visit, so I scheduled an appointment at a different hospital this time. I think the university hospital will say she doesn't need hearing aids. As expected, her recent hearing test results show her hearing is only borderline and not good enough to warrant hearing aids. However, since her right ear is completely deaf and her left ear's hearing is slightly diminished, she can't register as disabled, and the test results don't qualify her for medical insurance coverage. Still, she was told to consider trying it if she wants, and to get a consultation. The conclusion is that she decided to try hearing aids. Since her hearing loss cannot be reversed, I hope that using hearing aids will improve her quality of life.
