A story about experiencing the four symptoms of Meniere's disease
It was a disease whose name, Meniere's disease, was unfamiliar to me, but one day it suddenly appeared without any warning signs.
I was working well after arriving at work, but suddenly I felt a slight dizziness, then nausea, and everything around me seemed to be spinning.
I felt very dizzy, so I asked a colleague for help and lay down on the sofa, but the ceiling seemed to be falling down and the sofa was about to flip over, so I closed my eyes tightly, trying not to fall, and held onto the sofa.
The voices of the people next to me sounded distant, as if they were speaking from far away, and I also had a headache; it was about 20 minutes.
It’s as if I feigned illness out of curiosity, as if it were a miracle that it passed.
Everything is okay now, but I'm worried about my health, so near my workplace.
Went to the ENT clinic and received a diagnosis of Meniere's disease.
So, I had a hearing test, received a prescription, and took the medication for a few days.
Since that day, I haven't experienced such symptoms anymore, but in my left ear.
Feeling like your hearing has slightly weakened? Place your finger near your ear.
When I taste and gently rub, I experience a slight hearing loss where it doesn't sound as clear as on the right, but rather slightly quieter.
Usually, if someone like me experiences symptoms of Meniere's disease that last for a short time and disappear within a few minutes to tens of minutes, they do not seek medical attention.
You might not be aware of Ménière's disease and could overlook it, but I strongly recommend visiting a hospital.
What is Meniere's disease
This is a condition where abnormal accumulation of endolymph fluid in the endolymphatic duct within the vestibular organs of the ear responsible for balance causes the duct to swell, leading to symptoms such as dizziness, a feeling of fullness in the ear, tinnitus, hearing loss, and decreased hearing.
Symptoms of Meniere's disease
1. Dizziness and vertigo: It is accompanied by rotational dizziness, as if the surroundings are spinning. In such cases, it becomes difficult to maintain body balance, so caution is needed.
2. Vomiting and nausea: can occur due to dizziness.
3. Ear ringing and tinnitus: Tinnitus such as wind sounds, bell sounds, and water drop sounds ringing in the ears can cause stress.
4. Hearing loss: Initially occurs mainly in one ear and may be temporary, but over time it becomes permanent.
It may proceed.
5. Ear pressure: A feeling of fullness in the ear, similar to the sensation of ear congestion experienced during airplane takeoff or in high-altitude areas.
Causes of Meniere's disease
1. Unknown cause
2. Abnormal accumulation of lymphatic fluid
3. Genetic Factors
4. Immune system disorder
5. Stress
6. Virus Infection
There are causes related to the shoulder.
Treatment of Meniere's disease
1. Medication treatment: diuretics, antihistamines, sedatives, steroids, etc.
2. Dietary therapy and lifestyle improvement:
A low-salt diet helps reduce the accumulation of lymphatic fluid.
It is best to avoid caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine.
Fresh fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins and minerals, especially
Bananas, apples, and berries contain a lot of antioxidants, so they are said to be good for Meniere's disease.
Regular yoga or meditation and exercise are also necessary to reduce stress.
3. Physical therapy: Exercise programs to improve balance are effective for patients with severe dizziness.
4. Psychological therapy: Meniere's disease requires long-term management, and it can lead to depression or anxiety, so psychological therapy is also necessary.
5. Surgical treatment: If symptoms do not improve with medication and lifestyle changes, procedures such as lymphatic sac decompression and lymphatic sac excision are available.
Tinnitus and Meniere's disease have similar symptoms, but
Each cause and treatment method are said to be different.
It is important to visit the hospital, receive an accurate diagnosis, find the appropriate treatment, and manage it effectively.
Since that day, I have been practicing a low-sodium diet as well, including fruits and vegetables.
I always keep bananas and berries, which are said to be good for Meniere's disease, ready to eat.
I would like to share my experience so that you can be prepared for the symptoms and coping methods of Ménière's disease, which can suddenly occur.
