Three reviews of hospital visits and management for Meniere's disease.
More than ten years ago, one day suddenly, it sounded like nails scratching on a blackboard, then I felt extremely dizzy, couldn't open my eyes, and collapsed flat on the floor.
I went to the hospital in a hurry and had various tests, and they said I have Meniere's disease. I am taking herbal and Western medicine, along with health supplements, to manage Meniere's disease. I would like to share my experience.
The first onset of Ménière's disease was over ten years ago, a time I barely remember.
Suddenly, it felt like I was scratching a metal plate with my nails, and with a high-pitched screech, everything in front of my eyes spun. It was like riding a spinning cup ride at an amusement park for an hour without stopping...
My head is spinning like a tornado, my eyes won't open, I feel dizzy and like I might vomit, and the noise is so loud... It was really painful. ㅠㅠ
First, I went to the local clinic. Since it was urgent, I quickly rushed to the nearest one, and they said they would check for dizziness.
They put something dark over my eyes, then laid me down and quickly turned my head. I was already feeling nauseous.ㅠㅠ I heard many people vomit during this test...ㅠㅠ
They said it seems to be benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and Meniere's disease.
So I thought I should visit other places as well, and from then on, I visited all the major hospitals near Seoul or where my family lives. Just in case, I was looking for a place that might handle Meniere's better.
At first, I only visited Western medicine hospitals, but I didn't get better.ㅠㅠ
So I have also visited various traditional Korean medicine hospitals here and there.
Then, I went to Gwangju Dongsin Daehan Oriental Medicine Hospital near my sister's house.
I forgot the name of the thing where you take off all your clothes and your body changes color.
Red, orange, yellow, blue... You know, like the rainbow colors.
I took a picture of that for the first time.
My whole body was bright red from my neck. The doctor said, "Why are you so angry?"... He also mentioned that stress might have affected Meniere's disease. I received acupuncture and moxibustion regularly, and I also bought and took something like Gongjindan or herbal pills. After taking it, my tinnitus subsided for about two days. I was very amazed, but since I was a student at the time and didn't have much money, I couldn't buy it several times to continue taking it.
For about two years, I couldn't do anything in my daily life, just went to the hospital to treat Meniere's disease and stayed at home.ㅠㅠ
He gradually started to improve and began to move again.
Even now, if I overexert myself a little, get tired, or can't sleep, I end up feeling dizzy and collapse.ㅠ
So, my way of managing Meniere's disease is as follows.
First of all, sufficient sleep is important. Sleep is really crucial. I used to stay up all night or go to bed late at dawn frequently. However, the doctors at Dongshin Daehanbang Hospital told me to make sure to sleep between 10 PM and 2 AM. They said it helps boost immunity... Even if I wake up and move around at 3 AM, I must sleep during that time... It was really difficult, but I try my best to sleep during that time.
Secondly, it's a low-sodium diet. There is no salt in our house. We don't season at all. For example, when we eat ham, it's already salty, so we get salt intake from that and don't add extra salt. I've heard that a low-sodium diet is helpful.
Third, regarding nutritional intake. Naturally, there are parts that are lacking with just food. Like all illnesses, nutrition is important for Ménière's disease as well, so I take supplements and additional nutrients.
I take turns eating different things, and this is the one I bought recently.
I try eating various things because I think it might help with anything. There’s no definitive answer, but I believe that eating a balanced and varied diet is important for managing Meniere's disease.
I can't look at my phone for too long or keep the call going for too long without my eyes getting dizzy quickly, but I still tried my best to write diligently. Haha
I have severe dizziness due to Ménière's disease and also experience intense tinnitus.
At first, I was really scared because I couldn't do everyday activities at all.
But now, more than ten years later, I just accept it. It would only make things worse if I got stressed.
Although the symptoms of Ménière's disease vary, don't be too afraid, and let's all work together to manage it consistently.
Everyone, fighting!
