A review of suffering from Meniere's disease, medication treatment, and dietary improvements
Before I was diagnosed with Meniere's disease, I didn't experience such sudden dizziness, and I thought I was going to die here. Meniere's disease involves symptoms such as hearing loss, dizziness, tinnitus, and a feeling of fullness in the ear all at once, but especially I experienced severe tinnitus and dizziness, making everything spin in front of my eyes, and I felt like I was going to die. I was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with acute dizziness caused by Meniere's disease, and I was prescribed medication. Since then, I have been maintaining a low-sodium diet and paying attention to my eating habits.
Accompanied by family, I was taken to the hospital where basic tests such as hearing tests and vestibular function tests were conducted. To avoid experiencing similar symptoms again, I also underwent a temporal bone CT scan and MRI. The hospital checked the frequency, severity of dizziness, and degree of hearing loss, and concluded that my condition is not chronic Meniere's disease but rather acute severe dizziness. They advised me to start medication treatment first. I was prescribed medications commonly used for Meniere's disease, such as beta-histidine and diuretics.
The cause of Meniere's disease seems to be a systemic metabolic disorder caused by overwork and stress based on consultation results, but I am not entirely sure. In addition to medication for Meniere's disease, I looked into what I can do and found that it is necessary to limit salt intake, which can trigger Meniere's disease, and to avoid alcohol, coffee, smoking, and stress, as well as to get enough sleep.
Looking at my lifestyle habits, I think the bad habits were caused by a combination of factors. Since I used to say that food was not tasty unless it was salty, suddenly restricting salt intake with a low-sodium diet was really painful, but I continue to try because I never want to experience dizziness and tinnitus again due to Meniere's disease. To prevent the recurrence of Meniere's disease, I make broth using natural seasonings and ingredients such as shiitake mushrooms, dried shrimp, and mussel powder. Also, I previously tried beet juice, which was said to improve circulation, to help with sodium excretion, and it was effective.
