The causes of stomatitis are diverse; I thought it only happened when I was tired.
Mouth ulcers can occur not only when you're simply tired, but also due to various different causes of mouth ulcers.
First, when the immune system is weakened, mouth ulcers tend to occur frequently. Fatigue or high stress can lower immunity, weakening the mucous membranes in the mouth and making inflammation more likely to develop. This is also the most common cause of mouth ulcers.
Additionally, nutrient deficiencies are also one of the important causes. In particular, a lack of vitamin B, iron, and folic acid can impair the regeneration ability of the mucous membrane, leading to stomatitis. Stress is also closely related to the cause of stomatitis, as when experiencing high stress, various bodily functions weaken, resulting in frequent occurrences of stomatitis.
Mechanical irritation can also cause stomatitis. If you accidentally bite your mouth while eating or damage the mucous membrane by chewing very hard foods, inflammation can easily occur. Stomatitis can also develop if orthodontic appliances or dentures continuously irritate the inside of the mouth.
In particular, women may develop stomatitis due to hormonal changes. It can occur more frequently during menstrual cycles or pregnancy when hormone levels fluctuate. Additionally, stomatitis can also result from allergic reactions to certain foods or medications.
Finally, viral or bacterial infections can also cause stomatitis. For example, infection with the herpes virus can lead to recurrent episodes of stomatitis.
Since the causes of stomatitis can vary, if you frequently develop stomatitis, it is important to check your lifestyle habits and pay attention to your health management.
