I have otitis externa that hasn't gotten better in a month. Is there a good way to treat it?
Otitis externa is an inflammation of the outer ear canal and is a common disease in the summer.
I don't usually swab my ears, but last time my ears were so itchy that I unconsciously swabbed and touched them a lot, and I think that was the cause.
At first, I used a pair of earpicks to remove the earwax without touching the ear wall, but strangely enough, earwax kept growing. Later, scabs formed inside my ear, and since the scabs didn't heal, they eventually filled with yellow pus.
It turned out that it wasn't earwax, but dead skin cells caused by inflammation.
I felt pus gurgling in my ear, so I went to an ENT clinic and was diagnosed with acute otitis externa.
I was prescribed oral medication and ear drops, but it's not getting better as quickly as I thought.
I took all the medicine, but my ears still itch so much.
I've never had an ear infection in my life and I've never even poked my ears with cotton swabs, but I'm really uncomfortable with this sudden onset of otitis externa.
At first, I thought I would get better quickly if I got a prescription from the hospital and applied ointment.
The pus stopped coming out after two days, but the dead skin cells and scabs continued to come out for about two and a half weeks.
It's been a month now, but when I wake up in the morning, dead skin cells still appear on my ears.
Fortunately, it doesn't hurt, but I still feel itchy sometimes.
When dead skin cells form, it itches so I keep touching it, but if I forcibly remove the dead skin cells, it turns into a scab -> pus.
So I'm just holding it in by pressing the outside of my ear for fear it'll get worse.
I took the medicine once more in the middle, but it didn't get better completely.
This is the ear drops I was prescribed. They're better than before, but they don't seem to have much of an effect. Are there any effective ear drops?
It's really inconvenient to have to take care of your ears every morning...
Is it really true that otitis externa takes this long to get better?
Even if I take medicine, it only seems to get better for a short time. Is there a good way to get better for sure?
