급성후두염이 이렇게 확 오는 거였다니… 밤에만 심해져서 저도 그냥 넘어갈 뻔했네요ㅜ 이 글 보길 잘했어요...
Laryngitis symptoms, I didn't realize they could be this severe... Have you experienced it?
Has anyone experienced symptoms of laryngitis?
My throat has been itchy for a few days, and suddenly my voice became abnormal.
I feel like I might be hoarse, and I keep putting effort into speaking.
Coughing isn't just a simple "cough," but a real, deep hacking sound...
At first, I thought it was just a cold, but as it worsened, I became scared.
In the end, I went to the hospital, and they said I have laryngitis.
This is a more common condition than you might think, but it can be quite troublesome when you actually get it.ㅠ
Laryngitis symptoms, this is why it's difficult
At first, it was just a feeling of my throat being blocked, but
Eventually, I almost couldn't speak at all because my voice was gone.
Especially at night, the symptoms worsen, and even sleeping becomes a bit uncomfortable due to difficulty breathing.
- Hoarse voice (the more I talk, the worse it gets)
- Coughing that sounds like barking (I heard it really sounds like a dog's bark, so it seems like the right expression)
- Strange gurgling sound when breathing
- Cough worsens at night
Even when I stay still, my neck feels heavy and painful.
According to what I found on the internet, these symptoms are typical signs of laryngitis.
Usually, it gets better after 3 to 4 days, but those days are really painful.
Is laryngitis contagious? It's a little different from a cold.
Since I live with my family, I was worried that I might get infected.
But after looking into it, laryngitis isn't definitely contagious like a cold.
Even if infected with the same virus, symptoms can vary from person to person.
Some people end up with just a cold, while others may progress to laryngitis.
Especially young children have smaller airways, so they are more prone to laryngitis.
The age group most susceptible to illness is children between 2 and 5 years old.
- Even elementary school students have larger airways, so they rarely get laryngitis.
So, houses with children need to be especially cautious.
Sudden onset like mine could be 'acute laryngitis'.
How is laryngitis treated?
The hospital prescribed a steroid inhaler.
After using it a few times, breathing became much easier.
My cough is gradually getting better.
The management method we did together is like this:
Turn on the humidifier (it seems to get worse when the air is dry)
- Minimize speech as much as possible (Silence is medicine…)
Drink warm water frequently
- If you're anxious, it will be more difficult, so try to calm your mind.
If a child suddenly has difficulty breathing or
If your cough becomes too severe, it's best to go to the hospital immediately.
By the way, there is also a condition called reflux laryngitis.
That is because stomach acid rises up the esophagus and irritates the larynx.
They say it's a type that lasts chronically for a long time.
It was a case that suddenly worsened due to acute symptoms but gradually improved.
Let me organize it!
- Symptoms of laryngitis include a barking cough, hoarse voice, and a wheezing sound during breathing.
- The common cold virus is the cause, but transmission varies from person to person.
- Children are more vulnerable because their airways are smaller.
Acute laryngitis symptoms appear quickly and may recover within 3 to 4 days.
- Treatment includes hydration + rest + medication prescription at the hospital if necessary
Have you ever experienced a similar throat issue like mine and searched for it?
If you just let it go, it might become more difficult, so please manage it well from the beginning.
Please share in the comments if anyone has experienced similar symptoms.
I hope I wasn't the only one having such a hard timeㅠ
