What is IPL treatment?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, and it is used to treat various skin conditions using intense pulsed light. The characteristic of IPL is that it removes light below 500nm, which can cause strong stimulation to the skin, and selectively irradiates only light in the 500~950nm range, which has a greater therapeutic effect, using various filters. Additionally, it has the advantage of being able to use light of various wavelengths simultaneously or selectively, allowing for the treatment of multiple skin issues at the same time.

 

Effect

Initially approved for the treatment of telangiectasia, it is now used not only for treating pores, stretch marks, wrinkles, blemishes, and freckles but also for activating collagen within skin tissue to enhance skin elasticity.

 

Advantages and disadvantages

Unlike lasers that can only perform a single treatment such as pore laser or freckle laser, IPL has the advantage of treating multiple skin issues simultaneously. Additionally, after IPL treatment, patients can immediately return to their daily routines.

 

On the other hand, IPL treatment requires repeated sessions to see results and has the disadvantage of being less effective than laser treatments performed for specific conditions.

 

Precautions

IPL may cause redness of the skin immediately after treatment, so it is necessary to soothe the skin with masks or packs. After sufficient soothing, you should apply regenerative cream and sunscreen to protect the skin. It is okay to wash your face, take a light shower, or wear makeup after IPL treatment, but activities such as bathing, saunas, vigorous exercise, and massages can irritate the skin, so it is recommended to avoid them for about a week.
