Is my monthly salary average?…Men 4,260,000 won, women 2,790,000 won

In 2023, the average monthly income for employed workers was estimated at 3.63 million won before taxes. Among them, employees of large corporations earned about twice as much as those of small and medium-sized enterprises.

According to the '2023 Wage and Salary Worker Income (Remuneration) Results' announced by the National Statistical Office on the 25th, the average income of workers employed in wage-earning jobs as of December 2023 was 3.63 million won, an increase of 2.7% (10 million won) compared to the previous year.

The average income first exceeded 3 million won in 2019 and steadily increased to 3.2 million won in 2020 and 3.33 million won in 2021. The median income, which represents the midpoint of all wage earners' income, rose to 2.78 million won in 2023, up 4.1% from the previous year (2.67 million won). This also shows a continuous increase after surpassing the 2.5 million won mark in 2021.

When categorized by company size, the average income was highest for large corporations (5.93 million won), followed by non-profit organizations (3.49 million won), and small and medium-sized enterprises (2.98 million won). By industry, finance and insurance (7.53 million won), and electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply (6.75 million won) had higher average incomes. Conversely, industries such as accommodation and food services (1.81 million won), and associations, groups, and other personal services (2.23 million won) had relatively lower incomes.

The average income by gender was 1.5 times higher for men (4.26 million won) than for women (2.79 million won). Compared to the previous year, men's income increased by 3%, and women's by 2.8%.

The average income by age group was highest for those in their 40s (4.51 million won), followed by those in their 50s (4.29 million won), and then those in their 30s (3.86 million won).
