A ship and a truck carrying 2,180 liters of prohibited inorganic acids and hazardous chemicals were seized in Seocheon, Chungnam.

According to Boryeong Coast Guard on the 25th, a report was received at around 7:49 PM on the 24th that a vessel moored at Marangjin Port in Seocheon-gun and nearby vehicles were carrying methylamine.

The Coast Guard dispatched to the scene and confiscated 109 barrels of methamphetamine, approximately 2,180 liters, from a docked vessel and parked trucks.

Inorganic acids used in kimchi fermentation can destroy marine ecosystems and have serious effects on the human body compared to approved organic acids, so their use is strictly prohibited.

According to the Marine Resources Management Act, storing or using hazardous chemicals may result in imprisonment for up to 2 years or a fine of up to 20 million won.

Chief Han Sang-gyu stated, "The use of inorganic acids at the fish farm can harm public health and destroy the marine ecosystem," and added, "We will continue enforcement activities with a zero-tolerance policy regarding illegal activities related to public food and health in the future."
