Three common health misconceptions that most Koreans get wrong!

Habits that are believed to be good for health and practiced may often become harmful.

Among health misconceptions that Koreans particularly misunderstand

There are many scientifically incorrect things, which could actually harm your health!

💡 So, what are the three most common health misconceptions among Koreans?

Starting today, I will inform you of health information errors that need to be corrected immediately! 🚀

❌ 1. Should you live on "rice power"? → Excessive carbohydrate intake harms your health!

The saying "You need to eat rice to gain strength" is a familiar health fact among Koreans.

However, eating white rice as a staple food rapidly raises blood sugar levels and increases the risk of diabetes and obesity.

Why is white rice a problem?

✅ Rapid increase in blood sugar causes insulin resistance → Increased risk of diabetes

✅ Satiety disappears quickly, leading to overeating and increased snacking → weight gain

Vitamin & mineral deficiency → causes nutritional imbalance

📌 Why it is more dangerous for Koreans!

✔ The average daily carbohydrate intake of Koreans (64%) → higher than the global average (50%)!

✔ The number of diabetes patients is rapidly increasing (especially after the 40s, with a sharp rise in risk!)

✔ Most of the rice, soup, and side dishes are carbohydrate-rich → Blood sugar spike!

💡 Proper carbohydrate intake method!

Replace white rice with mixed brown rice, oats, and quinoa → Improved blood sugar control!

✅ Consume protein (eggs, tofu, fish) and healthy fats (nuts, olive oil) instead of rice

✅ Meal order → Vegetables → Protein → Carbohydrates to prevent a rapid spike in blood sugar!

👉 It's not just about rice, but 'nutritional balance' is important! 😊

❌ 2. Is it true that the more water you drink, the better? → Too much puts a strain on the kidneys!

You've probably heard the saying, "Drinking 2 to 3 liters of water a day is good for your health."

However, excessive fluid intake can overwork the kidneys and cause electrolyte imbalance.

What problems can occur if you drink too much water?

✅ Kidney overload causes disruption of electrolyte balance in the body → risk of hyponatremia

✅ 오히려 몸이 붓고, 혈액 내 나트륨 농도가 낮아지면 두통 & 피로 증가

✅ It's more important to drink the right amount that suits your body than to drink excessively!

📌 How to calculate the appropriate water intake!

✔ Weight (kg) × 30~35ml = Daily recommended intake

✔ If the urine color is light yellow, you are properly hydrated!

💡 How to drink water healthily!

✅ Drinking when thirsty (do not force yourself to drink!)

Avoid excessive water intake during meals → digestion enzymes become diluted

✅ Caffeinated beverages (coffee, green tea) induce diuretic effects → Drinking pure water is important!

👉 Drinking the right amount correctly is more important than drinking a lot!

❌ 3. Should you take vitamins when you don't feel well? → Excessive intake can be toxic!

Many people think that the more vitamins and health supplements they take, the healthier they become.

Consuming more than necessary can actually be harmful to your body.

The dangers of excessive vitamin intake!

✅ Vitamin A, D, E, and K (fat-soluble vitamins) can accumulate in the body when consumed in excess → potentially leading to toxicity!

✅ Especially be cautious with Vitamin A (liver health issues) and Vitamin D (risk of kidney stones due to excessive calcium absorption)!

It is healthiest to obtain vitamins from natural foods rather than synthetic vitamins!

📌 Side effects of excessive vitamin intake!

Excess vitamin A → Increased risk of liver damage, hair loss, and osteoporosis

Excessive vitamin D → Increased risk of kidney stones and elevated blood calcium levels, leading to increased heart burden

Excessive vitamin C intake → Increased risk of kidney stones (be cautious of intake exceeding 2,000mg per day!)

💡 Healthy Vitamin Intake Method!

✅ It is best to obtain nutrients from food → Use fruits, vegetables, and nuts!

Take supplements only if necessary (after consulting with a doctor!)

✅ Vitamin D is best supplemented by getting sunlight!

👉 Taking more vitamins is not necessarily better. Consume the appropriate amount that suits your body!

✅ A complete summary of health misconceptions commonly held by Koreans!

✔ ❌ Living for rice? → Excessive carbohydrate intake damages health!

✔ ❌ Is it better to drink a lot of water? → Excessive intake can burden the kidneys and cause electrolyte imbalance!

✔ ❌ Should you take a lot of vitamins when you're not feeling well? → Excessive intake can be toxic!

👉 If you understand and practice proper health knowledge, you can live 10 years healthier! 😊💪
