It was reported that a teacher who murdered an 8-year-old student with a weapon and attempted self-harm at a certain elementary school in Daejeon had also exhibited violent behavior on school grounds four days prior to the incident.

According to Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education and the police on the 11th, Teacher A exhibited violent behavior on the 6th, including breaking a colleague's arm. Teacher A, who had taken a leave of absence due to issues such as depression and returned to work at the end of last year, was sitting curled up when a fellow teacher asked, "What's going on," and then broke the colleague's arm, causing a disturbance. The situation was so serious that nearby teachers had to intervene to stop the incident, but it did not escalate to a police report.

 

It is known that the school strongly recommended that Mr. A take a leave of absence thereafter. Regarding Mr. A, who initially took a leave of absence due to mental health issues and returned to work as a subject teacher in December of last year, the school conveyed to the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education that measures needed to be prepared, but this was not accepted. It is reported that the city education office informed the school that further leave of absence was no longer possible due to the same health history.

The police stated, "Although related statements came up during the investigation, we need to confirm the details more precisely during the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education briefing scheduled for today."

The bereaved family strongly criticized the school and education authorities for failing to protect the child. The father of victim B said, "It's unreasonable for someone with depression to come back to school and teach," and "I feel like she couldn't handle herself and took her own life. The school should feel a strong sense of responsibility."

According to Daejeon Police and fire authorities, around 6 p.m. on the 10th, B girl, who was stabbed with a weapon, and A, a teacher at an elementary school building on the 2nd floor of Gwanjeon-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, were found in the audiovisual room. Emergency responders transported B girl, who was unconscious, to the hospital, but she died. Teacher A, who was stabbed in the neck and arm, is reported to be conscious.

The police are investigating the case, suspecting that Mr. A injured himself after the crime. Mr. A, who was questioned, admitted to the crime around 9 p.m. the previous day.
