Three KBS drama officials who nailed into Bansan Seowon, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are sent to prosecution
Three KBS drama production staff members who hammered nails into the buildings of Byeongsan Seowon, a cultural heritage site in Andong, Gyeongbuk, have been sent to the prosecution.
On the 10th, the Andong Police Station in Gyeongbuk announced that three individuals, including Mr. A from the props team on the KBS drama set, were sent to the prosecution without detention on charges of violating the Cultural Heritage Preservation and Utilization Act. Mr. A and others are suspected of hammering nails into various locations, including the pavilion Mandae-ru (晩對樓) within Bongsan Seowon and the pillars of Dongjae (東齋), which served as dormitories for students, on December 30 of last year.
Mr. A and others were believed to have committed this act in order to hang lanterns, a lighting prop, while filming a drama at Byeongsan Seowon. A passing tourist witnessed this and reported it to Andong City, which then filed a complaint with the police against the prop team members. After the incident, KBS issued an apology and destroyed all footage filmed at Byeongsan Seowon.
Byeongsan Seowon is the predecessor of Byeongsan Seodang, which was established by scholar Seoae (Seagai) Ryu Seong-ryong, who played an active role as a statesman during the Imjin War, reflected on the war, and authored works such as 'Jingbirok' (Record of Warning). It was relocated in 1575 from Pungak Seodang, which was then in Pungsan-eup.
After Ryu Seong-ryong's death in 1614, his memorial tablet was stored here, and it was renamed Bongsan Seowon. In the 14th year of King Cheoljong's reign (1863), it became a Sacred Memorial Academy (a seowon or shrine that received a royal inscription). It was designated as Cultural Heritage No. 260 in 1978, and in 2010, it was recognized as part of Hahoe Village. In 2019, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as one of Korea's Seowon.
The officials who hammered nails into cultural heritage for the drama filming have been sent to prosecution.
I can't believe that public broadcasting officials did such a thing.
What kind of thoughts would lead someone to do such a thing...
