17 bus passengers taken to emergency room due to driver drowsiness

Around 11 a.m. on the 9th, a city bus collided with a street tree on the road in front of an apartment in Hwagye-dong, Nowon-gu, Seoul. As a result of the accident, 17 of the 29 passengers on the bus were taken to the emergency room. The police have booked bus driver A (57) on charges of violating safe driving duties.

Among the 17 people transported to the emergency room, 3 sustained serious injuries such as fractures lasting more than three weeks, but it was reported that their lives were not in danger. The remaining 12 passengers are said to have sustained minor injuries.

The police believe that Mr. A's drowsy driving was the cause of the accident. The police stated, "After reviewing the black box footage from the witness vehicle, it appears highly likely that drowsy driving was involved," and "Mr. A also stated to the police that he was drowsy while driving." The police are also planning to review the black box footage from the accident vehicle soon. According to the police, Mr. A was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident.
