Thailand legalizes same-sex marriage from the 23rd... the first among Southeast Asian countries

According to AP News and others, the Thai government has begun accepting marriage registrations for same-sex couples at administrative offices nationwide and at Thai embassies and consulates abroad from this day.

Thailand is the first country in Southeast Asia to legalize same-sex marriage. In Asia, it is the third after Taiwan and Nepal.

On that day, Bangkok City and the LGBTQ+ organization Bangkok Pride held a large-scale event at Siam Paragon, a major shopping mall located in downtown Bangkok, to celebrate Marriage Equality Day.

Prime Minister Patongtan Chinnawat said, "It feels like a dream, but it is not. I extend congratulations to everyone," and added, "The world is paying attention to us, and we should take pride."
