Kimhae Airport surpasses 9 million international passenger arrivals last year
Last year, the number of passengers using Gimhae Airport's international flights increased significantly compared to the previous year, recovering to the 9 million range for the first time since COVID-19.
According to Korea Airports Corporation aviation statistics, the total number of passengers using Gimhae Airport last year was 15.75 million, a 15% increase from the previous year.
Among these, international travelers numbered 9,005,803, a 38.1% increase from approximately 6.52 million the previous year. This is the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic that the figure has recovered to the 9 million range.
The number of international passengers at Gimhae Airport reached a record high of 9.87 million in 2018 and 9.59 million in 2019. Due to COVID-19, the number of international passengers decreased significantly, but from the second half of 2022, when government quarantine measures were eased, the recovery gradually continued.
Japan had the highest number with 3.41 million people, followed by Vietnam with 1.88 million, Taiwan with 1.07 million, and China with 790,000.
The Busan to Bali route, the longest route at Gimhae Airport which began operations on October 30th last year, was used by 11,383 people.
Domestic passenger numbers decreased by 5.9% to 6,746,655, which is believed to be due to airlines adding more international flights, resulting in a reduction of domestic routes.

Last year, international passenger numbers increased by 38.1% compared to the year before last.
That means the number of travelers has increased significantly, but domestic flights have decreased a lot.
Since consumption decreased, they had no choice but to switch from domestic flights to international flights.
It seems that the issue with Jeju Island also played a significant role.
They really treat domestic tourists like suckers...
That's unfortunate.
